Billy No Mates Saturday cycle , punctures, coffee and a history stop

The usual Saturday cycle and coffee ride today with a couple of little excursions that made it into a little over 63K. It started a bit late to as I woke up to find a staple had put a couple of holes in my rear tire which was not a good omen. I run tubeless with tire sealant which is quite common on a Mountain Bike but the sealant is a bit old so its always a bit hit and miss to get a seal. I should have been replaced the sealant about 3 months ago but Cebu City is the only place I will get any and until very recently that has been a Covid no go area. On the plus side they did survive the trip without having to put any more air in the rear tire.IMG_1445.jpg

Bit lonely too as Paulo who normally cycles with me on a Saturday had other commitments so I was on my own. I've done the ride to Alegria few times now so I know what the hills are like and how far between the main points but cycling on your own especially on up some of the longer hills can be a struggle to keep motivated. I managed by breaking the ride up into shorter legs and treating each one as a goal and then making the decision to cycle on to the next. Not a bad way to do it and I did get all the way to the coffee shop. Even if it was a bit Billy No Mates drinking my coffee.

That said the coffee at Cafe de Metoli certainly was as good as usual and well worth the ride out.

There were not as many cyclist out today but I did see quite a few groups of motorbikes obviously riding together, usually the 125cc scooter size which almost everyone rides here, so it looks as if with the Covid restrictions being eased people are trying to get out of the city at the weekend.

Apart from the usual coffee stop I did make a small detour into the seaside park in Alegria. I will be honest it was Pokémon driven stop but while there I did take a quick look at an old watch tower.

From the plaque it dates back to the 1800s when the Spanish had control of the Philippine Islands obviously built to last unlike some of the more modern things you see being built. IMG_1451 2.jpg.

If your interested in some stats here is a quick summery. The cycling time was a bit shorter as I forgot to pause the timer while I had coffee so that should knock about 30 minutes off the total. So quite pleased with the ride really.
