Just add tea

People go crazy over coffee in my country, and in other countries I suppose too. Checking online to see who drinks the most left me surprised to see Finland in the lead with Norway and Iceland close behind. Here, people can't get enough of it and I was surprised that my country wasn't closer to the top of the coffee consumption list.

I love coffee too, rarely a day goes by in which I don't have at least one cup, however the way to my heart is through tea.

Okay, not really, it takes more than that to win my heart...and my heart is already claimed by my guy anyway...but I love tea and prefer it over coffee.

I have trouble tasting the difference between the different coffee beans: Arabica, Robusta, Liberica and Excelsa. They're all just coffee beans to me. I can taste some difference between the way they're roasted and how the coffee is prepared but nowhere near as much as I can with the different varieties of tea. I think that's what I like about it, the diversity and the way I can match it to my mood, time of day, weather and so on.

I mostly brew my tea from leaves on the weekend and the weekdays when I don't work however there's several tea bag options I like also; I switch between them depending on available time or the occasion and take care with the preparation. I don't go as far as making it ceremonial like some cultures, but drinking tea is a moment for me, a relaxation...me time. A quiet moment at home with a pot of tea, cat on my lap and a book is remarkably soothing to me and I'll create that moment as often as possible.

This weekend I visited a friend who will drinks her tea while racing around doing a hundred other things and I wonder if she truly enjoys it; she says she does, but I'm not convinced. I prefer to take the time to sit and enjoy it, the preparation and the drinking, and find it's a lovely time to contemplate, reflect, think and plan or just to breathe easy for a short while.

If I came with a label it would be, just add tea.

It's through my tea-moments I find space to think a little more clearly or hold the world at bay for a time; I know the world will resume along with my commitments, stress and worry , but only when that pot of tea is gone.
