#ThoughtfulDailyPost - Absurdity & Opportunity

zekethoughtsmusic.jpg

My algorithm has thrown me plenty to contemplate this week and what better place than #ThoughtfulDailyPost to share and discuss? @Wesphilbin waves the flag for us and runs @thoughtfulposts as the curation account that rewards thoughtful posts. Please join us in sharing your positive vibes on the blockchain and consider delegating.

I have been thinking lately a little about the strange times we live in and of victim mentality. How do you brilliantly pair those sentiments with meticulously curated music? Read on and see if it is as easy to embed a youtube video on Leo!

Absurdity

Thomas Sowell is an American economist, social philosopher, and political commentator. He was born in 1930 in segregated North Carolina, so you can appreciate how long ago that was. His work as a black conservative perhaps gained him the most fame and I know that took balls so lets give a listen.

When you open with reaching the "ultimate stage of absurdity," you are probably about to spit something heavy. Some people are being held responsible for things that happened before they were born. Being from segregated North Carolina with depression and war dominating your first 10 years of existence, he would not have only know hardship, but was a victim of those things that happened before I was born. As I learn more about race/status-based privilege, I have progressed from initially thinking it absurd to be blamed for something that happened before I was born. This fella thinks it is absurd. I find that...well...absurd.

Anyhow, on to the next. "While other people are not held responsible for that they themselves are doing today." Just wow. Sometimes I think these thoughts but shake my head and convince myself I would sound like a grumpy old boomer if I said them. I think there is a strong element of truth to that notion, pitted with a little generalization. There are other factors involved but dammit I see examples of this everywhere!

Now you got me started and I bow out just nodding my head at this one...lest I sound like a grumpy old boomer!

Just because it had Boom in the title and is the rockin'est song you might not have heard. Pat Travers?

Opportunity

PJ Milani seems to be making a little noise as an image creator specializing in visualizing sentiments like this one. A teacher improving his living by being a clear and simple visual communicator is a good thing in my book so lets visualize.

A simple line drawing sure conveys a sense of overwhelming threat and impending doom. I am sure everyone feels at least traces of this on some scale and life can seem pretty intense.

If only it was easy to tame the wave and possible to surf atop it with a raft of logs! Would having an opportunity mindset if you were in the first situation help get you to the second? Maybe?

Anyhow, I know what he is saying here and I subscribe to the mantra that the bigger the challenge, the greater the opportunity if you can overcome. The tougher the race get, the tougher we can get in our own way and the fewer competitors we will have to compete against. Improvise, overcome, adapt! It is not a bad thing to be a victim. I just have little patience for that mindset in myself when I have so much hay and happiness still to create.

I buried a Heartbreak Ridge quote in there so here is a little Clint Eastwood with great visuals.

Nothing like getting thoughtful as it is not the mistakes that lead to wisdom, it is contemplating those mistakes. If being thoughtful is up your alley, you have the option to delegate to @thoughfulposts to increase the rewards for positivity.
@thoughtfulposts/thoughtfulposts-introduction-or-a-thoughtfuldailypost is the post that started it in 2020!

I invite you to pen your own #thoughtfuldailypost any day of the week and share your insight on the world through your blog.
