Bye bye 2023
2023 was quite a year with sadly the war in Ukraine unresolved, an explosive and desperate situation in Gaza, and other conflicts continuing around the world. In the UK, an ineffectual and nasty government limped painfully on, while most of the population have realised they were conned by Brexit. David Cameron finds himself back in government. A sad indictment.
We had a few wins at work this year and, with just fifteen months until I finish my current role, there are a few decisions to be made about how we want to use that time. I would love to see the back of competitive tendering for essential services for vulnerable people: we have a strong case for spear-heading that this year. I hope we can do it.
I feel Hive is poised, too. I love seeing everything that is going on here. The way people and communities are getting together and getting on with it. The next eighteen to twenty months are going to be very exciting, it's going to be fabulous to see what changes we can make.
It's been the strangest Christmas and New Year I've seen. Before the break, everyone disappeared inordinately early (the last formal meeting at work was 7 December) and by the following week, it was like a ghost town in back offices. And now, everyone is rushing on Hive to get into the new year. Saturday Savers Club has seen plans for 2024 before 2023 had even got out the door!
Come in 2024 and bring your war chest with you
Unfortunate term, war chest, but useful for the idea of being prepared.
In 2023, I achieved my major savings goals and for 2024-2025, I have two inter-related aims:
- Use the bullrun to recover my investment in HIVE and grow my HP by 50%.
- Consolidate my passive income streams.
War Chest
Over the next eighteen months, I'll be stacking HIVE in my war chest. About 65% will come through organic growth in HP, about 12% from the sale of XV tokens, and the remaining 23% from selling surplus SPI tokens (or using the buyback guarantee). I plan to sell when HIVE reaches 2.00 USD and buyback, less my original investment, when HIVE drops to 0.40 USD.
I've used fairly conservative forecasts:
- HIVE at 2.00 USD - last cycle ATH was 2.80 USD
- HIVE low at 0.40 USD - it did go lower to .25 USD, but .4 USD was about the average.
- XV tokens double in value to 2 HIVE.
- SPI tokens at 8 HIVE - about their previous ATH.
For 2024, I'm aiming to grow to 115,000 HP.
Passive Income
The three routes for this are:
- Increased HP - through the war chest
- EDS Income token - I'm aiming for 12,500 EDS or 2.5% of the fund.
- SPI Dividends - still have to work this one out!
For 2024, I'm aiming to grow to 4,600 EDS.
There are three ways of accumulating EDS - buy EDS or its miners (EDSM and EDSMM) from the market; delegate HP to @eds-vote or buy EDSD with HBD - both pay out in EDS plus of income 50% builds the overall fund, so a kind of built-in structural savings plan that will benefit EDS holders.
Side Hustles
- Grow to 1,000 HSBI shares through sponsoring Saturday Savers Club members.
- Continue to stack LEO through delegating to @meowcurator.
- Continue to invest small cashback rewards and pension payments each month.
Other Important Things
- Continue to vote as an Orca.
- Support curation projects to spread votes as widely as possible.
- Build HBD savings as an emergency fund.
- Bring new people Hive through Saturday Savers Club.
