Arguably one of the biggest events in world sport, "The Super Bowl" had its 56th instalment this Sunday 13th February 2022 in the SoFi Stadium of Los Angeles, California dubbed Super Bowl LVI but probably better known as Crypto Bowl or Crypto Currency Awareness Day due to its affectionate embrace with the crypto world that was evident in the numerous and eye-catching crypto company commercials.
The Los Angeles Rams were eventual winners of this colossal event in their hometown which sent rife celebrations all around the city. The event was a huge spectacle as expected, Yahoo! Finance reported that about 36 million households in the US were tuned in to see the game.
The Game and Noteworthy Events
There were lots of interesting events in this year's Super Bowl. Starting with a very exciting high pitched game that saw the Rams undo the Cincinnati Bengals by the skin of their teeth in the 4th quarter, followed by an amazing celebration by fans both in the stadium and the streets of LA.
In other news, LA Rams free safety Taylor Rapp used the opportunity of the win to take a knee and pop the question to his girlfriend Dani Johnson that saw the whole arena cooing in admiration.
Van Jefferson also of the Rams who had earlier caught 4 passes in the game couldn't stay for the celebrations because his wife got into labour during the game and instructed that he wasn't told to avoid him being distracted from the game of his life. He was able to join up with his family before the celebration began and his baby was born 2 hours after their victory and amidst the celebration. I wouldn't be surprised if the baby has a super bowl themed name.
Seeing that the game was played in Los Angeles, it meant that it had a huge celebrity attendance with appearances from Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers to the Basketball legend Magic "Erwin" Johnson and Hollywood heavyweights like Mark Wahlberg, Sean Penn and even Mark Wahlberg strutting his newfound moustache.
The Halftime Show
The highlight of the event was the halftime show that showcased Hip-Hop masterclass with performances from Dr Dre acting as the conduit to the whole presentation and somewhat cementing his legacy as a pioneer in the Hip-Hop game. Snoop was also an integral part of the presentation as he and Dr Dre have a rich history together that spans up to 30 years.
50 cent also made a surprise appearance hanging upside down like he was in the original "In Da Club" 2003 music video. I really wasn't surprised to see him knowing the relationship he, Eminem and DR Dre share. Mary J Blige was next with her amazing voice that hasn't seemed to miss a note even with the passing of years as she performed hits "family affair" and "No more".
Next Stop was Kendrick Lamar who seemed to be given the least airtime considering the amount of talent he has but he did amazing with his time of fame performing stints of his hits "M.A.A.D. City" and "Alright" before Eminem completely shut the whole arena down with his "forget About Dre" and "Lose Yourself" hits and even ending his performance by taking the knee in support against police brutality and giving credence for Colin Kaepernick at the same time.
The Halftime show came to a close with the man who was pulling the strings Dr Dre, and once again as the show started he made it a point of duty to finish it strong.
First paying tribute to 2pac by playing the tune to his hit "I Ain't Mad at Cha" before finishing up with "Still D.R.E" with every one of the performing artists ending the presentation on the rooftop of a lookalike California building and the entire crowd going wild. This was arguably the greatest Super Bowl halftime show of all time.

The Crypto Ball AKA Crypto Awareness Day
You would think the greatest halftime performance would steal the show, but that wasn't the case as this year's Super Bowl seemed centred around cryptocurrency and its complete embrace and adoption. Crypto companies took up spots for many of the commercials in a bid to make a statement that this is no longer an issue that you can deal with levity but a real business model.
30-second commercials didn't come cheap at the super bowl with a price tag of about $7 million or about 160 Bitcoin for each 30-second commercial, but Crypto companies didn't let the price tag deter them as we had commercials from companies like Coinbase, Etoro, Crypto.com and FTX amongst many others putting out really dazzling commercials.
This is a major step for the constant growth of crypto as the strides to reach complete adoption is gradually being a reality. Last year alone, the LA Staples Center had his name changed to Crypto.com Arena in a $160 million deal.
Hence, the complete domination of the super bowl by crypto companies shows that it's no longer an idea the world can sleep on. I personally loved the FTX commercial featuring Larry David as it portrayed the real thoughts and behaviours of people outside the crypto sphere.
Personally, I think the Super Bowl LVI was one of the best we have seen in a long time when it comes to it being a spectacle and the idea that Crypto had a good day gives me a lot of joy and believe strongly that this win is the beginning of great things to come.
