Wondering what TOKUNBO is?

Tokunbo is a common term in Nigeria that is used to classify the most commonly used items in Nigeria that are from abroad and are already used. I say it is mostly used because a report has it that the percent of #Nigerians using brand new quality items such as phones, accessories, cars, and even clothes is small compared to the numbers of individuals who are using the already used items. If other items are not often used, cars and phones have the upper hand.

The middle-class citizens can only afford the already-used ones; talk more about the low-class citizens. We have the resources, but who are those people benefiting from them? The economic situation in Nigeria is really making things hard for its inhabitants. How on earth is Nigeria's existence only detrimental to most of its citizens? The politicians are making it really big without stress. In a period of one year, politicians in power will accumulate what can sustain them for the rest of their lives. There is no sense of commitment to serving their country, but only for their own benefit.

This has made it really hard for Nigerians because almost everyone has intentions of leaving the country for greener pastures (Japa mindset). In an induction ceremony I attended, the inductees were advised not to consider opportunities outside Nigeria, and someone from the crowd close to me said, "That is never going to happen. That is how bad it is. Does it mean they are no resources? Or Jobs? No. Nigeria has a lot in its possession that is not managed properly.

Other countries are making good use of the knowledge of Nigerians by offering them mouthwatering opportunities or deals, while those living in Nigeria keep going through the same routine every year. Why wouldn't Nigerians keep being so tied to already-used items?

Tokunbo cars.

Getting a car worth N3m (3 million naira) to N5m signifies you are rich, talk more of N10m or N15m. The funny thing is that most of the cars purchased with N5 million are already used. This amount is roughly spent on some things in other countries without second thought, while we see it as treasure.

The used phones.

The iOS that has a little value now

The trending or most desired devices are the iOS ones. Almost everyone desires it, but with no funds to go for the already used ones, talk more of the brand new. The image above shows a price list of used UK phones.

We hope for the best. A new phase will begin tomorrow (May 29th, 2023). The presidential swearing-in
