Les cuento que decidí empezar este año nuevo cumpliendo con todas mis promesas, y una de ellas era ver esta película: TITANE, que a decir verdad no sería una que habría escogido por misma para ver, pero me llamó la atención que recibió el premio Palma de Oro en el Festival de Cannes en el 2021 y leí una noticia donde describían que su recibimiento fue tan, pero tan "intenso" que muchos críticos se llevaron las manos a la cabeza cuando anunciaron el premio, y cuando la exhibieron incluso muchos abandonaron la sala jajá, ¡sí! Es ese nivel de película, así que en definitiva ¡tenía que verla!
Les confieso que cuando supe de ella y lo primero que leí era que estaba dirigida por la francesa Julia Ducournau, directora del film Raw que, por cierto, analizamos en una de mis pasantías en el servicio de psiquiatria mientras estudiaba, me imaginé por dónde venía el asunto y lo difícil de analizar que sería para mí esta película; pero dije: ¡vamos! ¿qué tan extraño puede ser después de haber visto Raw? jaja ¡que inocente fui! realmente es aún ¡MUCHO más extraña!
I decided to start this new year fulfilling all my promises, and one of them was to see this movie: TITANE, que a decir verdad no sería una que habría escogido por misma para ver, pero me llamó la atención que recibió el premio Palma de Oro en el Festival de Canes en el 2021 y leí una noticia donde describían que su recibimiento fue tan, pero tan "intenso" que muchos críticos se llevaron las manos a la cabeza cuando anunciaron el premio, y cuando la exhibieron incluso muchos abandonaron la sala jajá, ¡sí! Es ese nivel de película, así que en definitiva ¡tenía que verla!
I confess that when I heard about it and the first thing I read was that it was directed by the French Julia Ducournau, director of the film Raw which, by the way, we analyzed in one of my internships while I was studying, I imagined where the matter was coming from and how difficult it would be for me to analyze this film; but I said: come on! how strange can it be after having seen Raw? how innocent I was! haha it really is even MUCH stranger!
La película trata sobre una niña llamada Alexa, quien posterior a un accidente automovilístico sufre un traumatismo craneoencefálico y producto de esto deben colocarle una placa de titanio en el lóbulo temporal; seguidamente cuentan la historia de cómo se desarrolla su adultez, y de cómo durante este tiempo lleva a cabo ciertos actos que la obliga a terminar huyendo de donde vivía, y terminar refugiándose con una persona que había perdido a su hijo, haciéndose pasar por él; además de otra larga lista de eventos, que sería difícil describirlos todos aquí porque son tantos, y tan distintos unos de otros, que tendría que contar todo el film para poder hablarles de ellos y que "más o menos" tengan una idea de la narrativa; pero por supuesto eso no tendría sentido hacerlo aquí, lo que sí es que la película te dejará estupefacto, así que ¡tienes que verla!.
The film is about a girl named Alexa, who after a car accident suffers a traumatic brain injury and as a result of this she has to have a titanium plate placed in her temporal lobe; then they tell the story of how her adulthood develops, and how during this time she carries out certain acts that forces her to end up fleeing from where she lived, and end up taking refuge with a person who had lost his son, pretending to be him; plus another long list of events, which would be difficult to describe them all here because there are so many, and so different from each other, that I would have to tell the whole film to be able to tell you about them and "more or less" have an idea of the narrative; but of course that would be pointless to do here, what it is that the film will leave you stupefied, so you have to see it! .

Les advierto que no sé ni siquiera como empezar este apartado jajá, es una película que trasciende muchísimas reglas de lo que conocemos como "normal" y hasta de lo imaginable, y es casi tan difícil de analizar, como para algunos difícil de ver, sino pregúntenle a los críticos del Festival de Cannes.
I warn you that I do not even know how to start this section haha, it is a film that transcends many rules of what we know as "normal" and even the imaginable, and is almost as difficult to analyze, as for some difficult to see, but just ask the critics of the Festival de Canes.
Por lo que se puede inferir la película comienza contando la historia de una niña quien parece tener algún problema de conducta, pero que no lo explican claramente en la película, solo la muestran rebelde y desobediente con su padre, a tal punto que es la causante de un accidente de tránsito de ella con él. Posterior a esto, al tener un traumatismo craneoencefálico severo y haber requerido la colocación de una prótesis de titanio, "aparentemente" desarrolla un trastornos psiquiátrico, que no podemos describir ni siquiera como psicopático, porque ella posterior a cometer sus múltiples asesinatos en la adultez siente repulsión en algunas oportunidades y en otras demuestra sentimiento de culpa posterior a llevarlos a cabo; cosa que no ocurre con los psicópatas, quienes se sienten felices al cometer sus actos y no sienten ningún arrepentimiento al hacerlos: por lo me impresiona que es una alteración en el control de sus impulsos que la lleva a que ella no pueda controlar su ira, por ejemplo, y termine asesinando a quien le ocasiona molestia, pero además una vez que lo hace no puede detenerse, como en la escena donde asesina a 4 personas de forma continua; les cuento que todo esto puede perfectamente ser originado posterior a un traumatismo craneoencefálico, del nivel que ella tuvo, porque son alteraciones de la conducta y de la personalidad, así que hasta este punto vamos relativamente bien y coherentes con la historia jajá.
The film begins telling the story of a girl who seems to have a behavioral problem, but it is not clearly explained in the film, she is only shown as rebellious and disobedient with her father, to the point that she is the cause of a traffic accident with him. After this, having a severe cranioencephalic trauma and having required the placement of a titanium prosthesis, she "apparently" develops a psychiatric disorder, which we cannot even describe as psychopathic, because after committing her multiple murders in adulthood she feels repulsion in some opportunities and in others she shows feelings of guilt after carrying them out; something that does not happen with psychopaths, who feel happy when committing their acts and do not feel any regret when doing them: so it seems to me that it is an alteration in the control of her impulses that leads her to be unable to control her anger, for example, and she ends up killing whoever bothers her, but also once she does it she cannot stop, as in the scene where she kills 4 people continuously; I tell you that all this may well be originated after a traumatic brain injury, of the level she had, because they are alterations of behavior and personality, so up to this point we are relatively well and consistent with the story hahaha.
Pero ese no es el único ejemplo de descontrol de impulsos que tiene su personalidad, la película se enfoca en una parafilia que tiene la chica, basada en tener relaciones sexuales con autos, ¡sí! Así de extraño como lo lees, probablemente tratando de llenar vacíos existenciales que posee desde su infancia, o tratando de reprimir algún trauma, convirtiendo estos en comportamientos adictivos y auto lesivos imposibles de reprimir, y como si no fuera suficiente con esto ¡queda embarazada de uno de ellos!, cosa totalmente ilógica e irracional, pero vamos ¡es una película! A este punto como comprenderán dejé de seguir tratando de encontrarle coherencia a la narrativa, hasta llegué a pensar que, tal vez, ella en realidad no era un ser humano normal desde el principio, sino una inteligencia artificial, como una especie de robot ¿mitad mujer, mitad auto? ¿Puede ser? ¡No sé! Y lo peor es que tampoco lo explican lo suficiente para salir de dudas; mi conjetura se basa en que al final de la película muestran las características del niño al nacer, el cual posee una placa de titanio también a nivel craneal y una columna vertebral también de titanio, además de las características del líquido amniótico y la secreción mamaria que presentaba Alexa durante la gestación y el parto, que aparenta ser aceite de uso en mecánica automotriz. Jajaja ¡siiii, así de extraño como se lo imaginan!
But that is not the only example of uncontrolled impulses that her personality has, the film focuses on a paraphilia that the girl has, based on having sex with cars, yes! As strange as you read, probably trying to fill existential voids she has since childhood, or trying to repress some trauma, turning these into addictive and self-injurious behaviors impossible to repress and as if that were not enough, she gets pregnant with one of them, which is totally illogical and irrational, but come on, it's a movie! At this point, as you will understand, I stopped trying to find coherence to the narrative, I even thought that maybe she was not really a normal human being from the beginning, but an artificial intelligence, like a kind of robot, half woman, half car? Could it be? I don't know! And the worst thing is that they don't explain it enough to get out of doubt; my guess is based on the fact that at the end of the movie they show the characteristics of the child at birth, which has a titanium plate also at cranial level and a spine also made of titanium, in addition to the characteristics of the amniotic fluid and the mammary secretion that Alexa presented during gestation and delivery, which appears to be oil for use in automotive mechanics. Hahaha yessssss, as strange as you can imagine!
Hay una segunda parte de la trama donde ocurre un giro argumental, y es cuando Alexa decide huir de la ciudad por los asesinatos que cometió, incluyendo el de sus padres, estando embarazada, y se las arregla para hacerse pasar por el hijo de un bombero que había sido dado por perdido hace algunos años; es aquí donde entonces se desarrolla otra trama de la historia y además cobra vida un personaje llamado Vincent interpretado por el actor Vincent Lindon, quien a mi parecer, desarrolla en ocasiones tan bien su papel, que hasta pareciera que él es el protagonista de esta parte de la historia.
Vicent se encuentra devastado por la pérdida de su hijo; hago paréntesis aquí para explicar que, no sé si es mi percepción, pero bajo su dolor y su dificultad para pensar racionalmente por lo que significa la pérdida de un hijo, Vicent a mi parecer se encuentra en un estado de negación, ya que no quiere rendirse con la pérdida de su hijo, y se engaña a sí mismo para hacerse creer que Alexa (ahora vestida como hombre) es su hijo perdido. Pero realmente en su interior siento que él sabe que no lo es, porque son físicamente muy distintos y además ni siquiera quiso que le hicieran una prueba de ADN para certificar que en realidad lo era. Él está buscando llenar el vacío por la pérdida y el dolor que tiene, incluso en un momento en la película le dice: que “no importa quién sea, pero él es su hijo”.
There is a second part of the plot where a plot twist occurs, and it is when Alexa decides to flee the city for the murders she committed, being pregnant, and manages to pass herself off as the son of a fireman who had been given up for lost some years ago; It is here where another plot of the story develops and also comes to life a character named Vincent played by the actor Vincent Lindon, who in my opinion, develops his role so well at times, that it even seems that he is the protagonist of this part of the story.
Vincent is devastated by the loss of his son; I digress here to explain that, I don't know if it is my perception, but beneath his pain and his difficulty to think rationally about what the loss of a son means, Vincent in my opinion is in a state of denial, as he doesn't want to give up with the loss of his son, and he deludes himself into believing that Alexa (now dressed as a man) is his lost son. But really deep down inside I feel that he knows he is not, because they are physically they are very different and also he didn't even want them to do a DNA test to certify that he really was. He is looking to fill the void for the loss and pain he has, even at one point in the movie he tells her: that "it doesn't matter who he is, but he is her son".
Vicent obviamente por la pérdida de su hijo, que no ha superado, posee problemas emocionales y lo demuestra a través del uso de drogas, alcohol, comportamientos exagerados como auto exigencia física, estrés postraumático, autoflagelación o buscando demasiada cercanía con su "nuevo hijo", que es Alexa, ahora llamado Adrian; tanto que llega a ser bastante extraña una escena donde baila con él, pero terminan peleando, en una forma de búsqueda de tratar de comunicarse, y además realizando otros gestos bastante impropios para tratar de acercarse a él, que dudo que haría un padre con su hijo, de forma normal; por lo que se deja entrever que, tal vez Vincent tenía una relación incestuosa con su hijo real.
Alexa inicialmente demuestra rechazo al contacto físico de él y a la comunicación, pareciera tenerle miedo, ¿pudiera ser por estrés postraumático por algún acto cometido por su verdadero padre hacía ella? ¡Tampoco lo sé! Lo que sí queda claro, es que a partir de este contacto con su “nuevo padre” o protector, debido a las constantes demostraciones de cariño paternal que éste le da, y que aparentemente Alexa nunca ha recibido, desarrolla entonces otro trastorno psicológico pero en este caso pareciera ser un complejo de Electra, ya que aun cuando inicialmente desarrolla rechazo hacía él, ella termina desarrollando sentimientos por éste, pero no solamente un sentimiento de amor de hija hacia un padre, sino que éste demuestra una evolución a un amor entre un hombre y una mujer; alteración que a su vez, se ve complementada por la de Vicent, quien parece haber también desarrollado sentimientos por ella pero en forma de incesto.
Vincent obviously because of the loss of his son, which he has not overcome, has emotional problems and shows it through the use of drugs, alcohol, exaggerated behaviors such as physical self-demanding, post-traumatic stress, or seeking too much closeness with his "new son", which is Alexa; So much so that it becomes quite strange a scene where he dances with his "new son", but ends up fighting with him, in a way of seeking to try to communicate, but also making other rather strange gestures to try to get closer to him, which I doubt that a father would do with his son, in a normal way.
Alexa initially shows rejection to his physical contact and communication, she seems to be afraid of him, could it be because of post-traumatic stress due to some act committed by her real father towards her? I don't know either! What is clear is that from this contact with her "new father" or protector, due to the constant demonstrations of paternal affection that he gives her, and that apparently Alexa has never received, she then develops another psychological disorder but in this case it seems to be an Electra complex, because even when she initially develops rejection towards him, she ends up developing feelings for him, but not only a feeling of love of a daughter towards a father, but this shows an evolution to a love between a man and a woman; This alteration, in turn, is complemented by that of Vincent, who also seems to have developed feelings for her, but in the form of incest.
Ya hasta este punto como pueden ver la cantidad de problemas de ambos personajes es tal, que el hecho de que Alexa esté embarazada de un automovil y que tenga unos cambios dismórficos extremos producto del embarazo, termina siendo lo menos llamativo e impresionante de la historia para mí, jajaja
Already up to this point as you can see the amount of problems of both characters is such, that the fact that Alexa is pregnant with a car and that she has extreme dysmorphic changes as a result of pregnancy, ends up being the least striking and impressive of the story for me, hahaha.
No sé mucho de cine, debo recalcar, me gusta ver películas que me dejen aprendizajes o me entretengan, no suelo escoger películas por ver cosas nuevas o que tengan una buena opinión general, porque gran parte de las veces no concuerdo en nada con esas opiniones, y es porque tiendo a enfocarme en otras cosas a la hora de escogerlas; así que honestamente la película es una verdadera cosa ¡nunca antes vista para mí! hay tanta mezcla de argumentos que la hacen ser llamativa e interesante al espectador porque es algo nuevo, fuera de lo común, pero a la vez completamente irracional. De hecho, debo resaltar que aun cuando muchas partes de la historia parecían no tener sentido para mí, yo seguía en suspenso esperando el desenlace de ella, donde respondieran todas mis preguntas, lo cual es algo muy positivo porque mantiene expectante a quien la está viendo, pero para mi propia tristeza, me dejaron al final, aún con más preguntas de las que empecé.
Pero esa misma mezcla de argumentos que me mantuvieron atenta para encontrar las respuestas a lo largo de la historia, fueron los mismos que me hicieron pensar que había demasiada incoherencia junta y que la trama no tenía sentido en absoluto. Como, por ejemplo: ¿Por qué Alexa antes de pensar que estaba embaraza del auto, por qué no buscó practicarse un aborto, por lo menos en una clínica clandestina, y no intentar ella misma abortar introduciéndose objetos punzo penetrantes que le generaban dolor?, ¿Cómo es posible que una chica tan delgada sea capaz de matar a hombres que le triplican el tamaño a través de un mínimo de esfuerzo, y hasta 4 de ellos en una noche? Y bueno el pequeño detalle de ¿Cómo se embarazó de un auto?
I don't know much about movies, I must emphasize, I like to watch movies that leave me learnings or entertain me, I don't usually choose movies to see new things or that have a good general opinion, because most of the times I don't agree at all with those opinions, and it's because I tend to focus on other things when choosing them; so honestly the movie is a real thing never seen before for me, there is so much mixture of arguments that make it striking and interesting to the viewer because it is something new, out of the ordinary, but at the same time completely irrational. In fact, I must emphasize that even when many parts of the story seemed to make no sense to me, I was still in suspense waiting for the denouement of it, where all my questions were answered, which is a very positive thing because it keeps the viewer expectant, but to my own sadness, I was left at the end with even more questions than I started with.
But that same mix of plots that kept me attentive to find the answers throughout the story, were the same ones that made me think that there was too much incoherence together and that the plot made no sense at all. Like, for example: Why didn't Alexa before thinking she was pregnant from the car, why didn't she seek an abortion, at least in a clandestine clinic, and not try to abort herself by inserting sharp penetrating objects that generated pain, how is it possible that such a thin girl is able to kill men three times her size through a minimum of effort, and up to 4 of them in one night? And well the small detail of how did she get pregnant from a car?
Sin embargo, cuando ya por fin me rendí de tratar de encontrar coherencia en la historia, cosa que me costó muchísimo, me dejé llevar por ella, y luego dije: ¡olvídalo Dalla, no lo lograras! Así que solo decidí ignorar cuando no le encontraba el sentido de algo. Y fue entonces cuando empecé a detallar las escenas, y debo decir, que aun cuando no estoy de acuerdo mucho con esos festivales, ya entiendo por qué ganó el Palma de Oro, son escenas perfectamente pensadas, no hay lugar a la distracción en ellas, solo te puedes enfocar en el factor que ellos quieren, la crudeza de como muestran cada facción de cada personaje y resaltan en ello lo grotesco y desagradable para generar más impacto sobre todo en la cara de Alexa y la de Vicent ¡es fenomenal! Porque se ve que no son sus propias facciones, son forzadas en caso de Vicent, y de maquillaje en el caso de Alexa, para generar cierto rechazo al espectador y que les sea difícil ver la película, creo que incluso adrede, las escenas que desarrollaron en slow motion cuando bailaba Vicent o los bomberos ¡me encantaron! me recordaron al jocker bailando la primera vez que cometió su asesinato, y la mezcla con la música de fondo fue espectacular, toda la escenografía tan distinta en cada escena tienen una iluminación única, el trabajo de fotografía en cada cuadro de escena es fenomenal, no sé como rayos lo hacen, pero logran que esa fría, hostil, y cruda realidad le permitan al espectador captar la emoción de inmediato a través del ambiente que acompaña al personaje.

So I just decided to ignore when I couldn't make sense of something. And that's when I started to detail the scenes, and I must say, even though I don't agree much with those festivals, I understand why it won the Palme d'Or, they are perfectly thought out scenes, there is no room for distraction in them, you can only focus on the factor they want, the rawness of how they show each faction of each character and highlight in it the grotesque and unpleasant to generate more impact especially in Alexa's face and Vincent's face is phenomenal! Because you can see that they are not their own factions, they are forced in the case of Vincent, and makeup in the case of Alexa, to generate some rejection to the viewer and make it difficult for them to see the film, I think even deliberately, the scenes that developed as in slow motion when dancing Vincent or firefighters I loved, and the mix with the background music was spectacular, all the scenery so different in each scene have a unique lighting, I do not know what they call that in the cinema, but it is as if they were photographs of a harsh reality that allow the viewer to capture the emotion immediately of the environment that accompanies the character.
Hay una escena que fue la que más me gustó que es cuando Vincent tiene una sobredosis de droga y llega Alexa, que pudiendo aprovechar de matarlo, como usualmente hace, ella cambia de parecer e intenta despertarlo, pero no lo logra y termina abrazándolo, en esa escena podemos admirar el cambio radical del pensamiento de Alexa, por fin podemos ver que demuestra verdaderos sentimientos, es como si por fin se hubieran encontrados los demonios internos de ambos y empezaran a estar en paz, eso en conjunto con la ambientación del baño, los contrastes de colores, las luces, ¡todo! de verdad ¡que escena tan Magistral!
No lo detallé en el análisis porque no los profundizaron mucho, pero durante toda la trama tocaron temas como la identidad de género, el uso de drogas, el alcohol, bulling, sexualidad y otros más, y cuando una película trata tantos temas juntos es digno de admirar, aunque no sé si fue con la intención de despertar más interés de parte de los espectadores en ver el film, porque solo los tocaron superficialmente; sin embargo creo que usaron algunas escenas, que para mí fueron forzadas, por ejemplo las escenas de desnudos en la exhibición de autos, siento que no eran tan necesarias, creo que fueron más para llamar la atención a la película ¡no sé! es mi impresión, porque ni siquiera Alexa bailaba desnuda, creo que fueron escenas de las que se podía prescindir, mientras que los desnudos de Alexa si fueron bastante necesarios para desarrollar la trama.
There is a scene that I liked the most, when Vincent has a drug overdose and Alexa arrives and could take advantage of killing him, as she usually does, she changes her mind and tries to wake him up, but she does not succeed and ends up hugging him, in that scene we can admire the radical change in Alexa's thinking, finally we can see that she shows true feelings, it is as if the inner demons of both have finally met and begun to be at peace, and the setting of the bathroom, the color contrasts, the lights, everything! really, what a masterful scene!
I didn't detail it in the analysis because they didn't go into much depth, but throughout the plot they touched on issues such as gender identity, drug use, alcohol, bulling, sexuality and others, and when a film deals with so many issues together it is worthy of admiration, although I don't know if it was with the intention of arousing more interest from the viewers to see the film, because they only touched on them superficially; however I think they used some scenes, that for me were forced, for example the nude scenes in the car show, I feel they were not so necessary, I think they were more to draw attention to the film, I don't know! I don't know! it's my impression, because not even Alexa danced naked, I think they were scenes that could be dispensed with, while Alexa's nudity was quite necessary to develop the plot.
Me hubiera gustado inmensamente que hubieran ahondado un poco en el antecedente de la infancia de Alexa, ¿por qué se comportaba así desde niña? ¿Qué problema tenía?, ¿Su comportamiento de la adultez viene desde el nacimiento?, ¿O fue en serio después del accidente? Así sabría si fue en serio una alteración de su comportamiento o personalidad por el traumatismo craneoencefálico, o es que le sucedió algo en la infancia, o solo nació así, eso habría dado respuesta a mucha de mis preguntas.
Lo dejé casi para lo último, pero debo resaltar la actuación espectacular de la actriz a quien no conocía, Agathe Rosuselle, creo que debe decir solo menos de 10 líneas en toda la película, no estoy del todo segura, pero son muy pocas, y todo lo demás lo expresa ella con la mirada, sus expresiones y con su forma de actuar, es ¡completamente increíble! Como demuestra rabia, asco, dolor, culpa, debilidad, rudeza, ¡todo! ¡absolutamente todo! el matiz completo de emociones solo con la mirada y su actuación.
I would have liked immensely if they had delved a little bit into Alexa's childhood background, why did she behave like that since she was a child, what was her problem, did her adult behavior come from birth, or was it seriously after the accident, so I would know if it was a serious alteration of her behavior or personality because of the traumatic brain injury, or was she just born like that? Then I would know if it was seriously an alteration of her behavior or personality due to the traumatic brain injury, or did something happen to her in childhood, or was she just born that way?
¿La volvería a ver? ¡Si! Incluso creo que como unas 3 veces más para tratar de entender más cosas, porque conociéndome cada vez que la vea voy a encontrar más detalles, ¿Escogería otra película igual por mí misma? Lo dudo, a menos que me la recomienden nuevamente ¿Me gustó? Pues no es algo que disfrute tanto ver, pero si me agradó verla, es algo diferente a lo que acostumbro y está bien salir de la rutina de vez en cuando y ver qué es lo que están premiando actualmente; pero luego me pregunto ¿será que para allá vamos en el cine o en la realidad? Y entonces me preocupo porque creo que es bastante bizarra toda la trama en general, por mi parte si hacen una segunda parte que responda todas mis dudas, ¡seré muy feliz!
Y bueno queridos Hivers de Movies and Tv-Show, me disculpo nuevamente por lo largo de mi review, pero es imposible hacer una de este tipo de películas con tantos detalles sin ser algo largo. Well, it's not something I enjoy watching so much, but I liked watching it, it's something different from what I'm used to and it's good to get out of the routine once in a while and see what is currently being awarded; but then I ask myself, is that where we are going in the movies? And then I worry because I think the whole plot in general is quite bizarre, for my part if they make a second part that answers all my doubts, I'll be very happy!
And well dear Hivers of Movies and Tv Show, I apologize again for the length of my review, but it's impossible to make one of this kind of movie with so many details without being a bit long. If you made it this far, thanks for reading, and if you didn't, don't worry, maybe I wouldn't have made it either.
