"Edward Scissorhands" is not the typical Christmas movie because the story is not completely centered on Christmas; however, that is not the reason why to this day it is one of my favorite movies to watch at this time of the year. For me Christmas is going back to the memories of my happy childhood, and if there was something that marked my childhood was seeing my first movie in the cinema, being this "Edward Scissorhands", for me, a 5 year old girl at that time, seeing those beautiful images in giant format, generated such an impression, that to this day I remember them vividly and thats why I chose her to participate in the Community Christmas Event.
"Edward manos de tijeras" no es la típica película navideña porque la historia no se centra completamente en la navidad; de cualquier forma, esa no es la razón por lo que hasta la actualidad es una de mis películas favoritas para ver en esta época. Para mi la navidad es remontarme a los recuerdos de mi infancia feliz, y si hubo algo que marcó mi infancia fue ver mi primera película en el cine, siendo esta "Edward Manos de Tijeras", para mi, una niña de 5 años en ese tiempo, ver esas imágenes tan hermosas en formato gigante, me generaron tal impresión, que hasta el día de hoy las recuerdo vívidamente, es por eso que la escogí para participar en el Evento Navideño Comunitario.
Cuando la gente habla de películas navideñas es común escuchar hablar de películas de Santa Claus, del polo norte o de elfos, pero para mi cuando me hablan de navidad es recordar mi infancia feliz, es mi tiempo de proyección a ese momento en el que siendo niña o adolescente, estábamos por fin libres de clases, y mis hermanos y yo nos reuníamos a ver las películas que veíamos en la televisión, pero cuando conocí el cine fue algo completamente nuevo para mí.
When people talk about Christmas movies it is common to hear about Santa Claus, North Pole or Elf movies, but for me when they talk about Christmas is to remember my happy childhood, it is my projection time to that moment when as a child or teenager, we were finally free from classes, and my brothers and I would get together to watch the movies we saw on TV, but when I met the cinema was something completely new to me.
Se me ocurrió hacer la reseña de esta película, ya que, además de lo que les comenté arriba, me gusta al ver una película analizar psicológicamente los personajes, las historias y lo que he aprendido a partir de ellos, y ahora que lo pienso, tal vez esta película hasta ayudó incluso a moldear mi personalidad y entender muchas cosas a mis cortos 5 años de edad.
It occurred to me to review this movie, since, in addition to what I told you above, I like to psychologically analyze the characters, the stories and what I have learned from them, and now that I think about it, maybe this movie even helped to shape my personality and understand many things at my short 5 years of age.
Por supuesto, con el tiempo, al crecer y poder comprender más profundamente los personajes aprendí muchísimas más cosas de ellos, que siendo tan niña obviamente no entendí cuando la vi por primera vez, por ello con el transcurrir del tiempo se afianzó más en mi la razón del porqué me gustaba y me gusta tanto esa película.
Of course, over time, as I grew up and was able to understand the characters more deeply, I learned a lot more about them, which as a child I obviously did not understand when I saw it for the first time, so as time went by, the reason why I liked and love this movie so much became more and more clear to me.
"Edward Manos de tijeras" o conocida también como "El joven manos de tijeras", es una película estrenada en diciembre de 1990 dirigida por "Tim Burton", escrita por él en colaboración con "Caroline Thompson". Cabe recalcar que es uno de los directores favoritos de mi vida capaz de convertir, desde mi punto de vista, las historias en verdaderas obras de arte. Probablemente mi gusto por sus películas se afianzó en el transcurrir de mi vida por lo fuera de lo común de sus historias, y por lo bizarro de sus personajes, quienes son siempre personajes complejos con trasfondos psicológicos importantes, pero que a simple vista generan hasta disgusto en el espectador por lo visualmente extraños que parecen; además la forma de narración y los cuadros de escena son verdaderamente hermosos en composición de formas y colores, los cuales, por cierto, nunca están ajustados al formato común para el público al que están destinados, como es el caso de las caricaturas supuestamente destinadas al público infantil de Tim Burton como "Bitelchus", "El extraño mundo de Jack", o "El cadáver de la novia".
"Edward Scissorhands" also known as -Young Scissorhands"_, s is a film released in December 1990 directed by "Tim Burton ", written by him in collaboration with "Caroline Thompson ". It should be emphasized that he is one of the favorite directors of my life capable of turning, from my point of view, stories into true works of art. Probably my taste for his films was strengthened in the course of my life because of the unusual nature of his stories, and the bizarre nature of his characters, who are always complex characters with important psychological backgrounds, but that at first glance generate even disgust in the viewer because of how visually strange they seem; in addition, the form of narration and the scene frames are truly beautiful in composition of shapes and colors, which, by the way, are never adjusted to the common format for the public to which they are destined, as is the case of the cartoons supposedly destined to Tim Burton's children's audience such as "Bitelchus ", "The strange world of Jack ", or "Corpse Bride ".
Por supuesto a los 5 años cuando vi esta película no entendía nada de esto, solo me gustaba lo bonito de la escenificación de un pueblito muy pintoresco, con además la presencia de un castillo, con árboles con distintas formas, colores llamativos y la presencia de un personaje que aún cuando a simple vista aparenta ser aterrador, inmediatamente da a entender que es todo menos eso, todo esto visto a través de una pantalla gigante que nunca había visto en mi vida, así que ¡imagínense la sensación!
Of course when I was 5 years old when I saw this movie I didn't understand any of this, I just liked the beautiful scenery of a picturesque village, with the presence of a castle, trees with different shapes, bright colors and the presence of a character that even though at first glance appears to be terrifying, immediately gives the impression that he is anything but, all this seen through a giant screen that I had never seen in my life, so imagine the feeling.
- "Edward" es el personaje principal de la historia interpretado por jonhny Depp, quien por cierto es de mis actores favoritos de la vida, capaz de interpretar personajes de una forma magistral siempre dándoles su toque personal característico, esta película representa para Jonhny Depp un gran salto en su carrera y el inicio de colaboraciones incipientes con Tim Burton, generando películas exitosas prácticamente todas.
- "Edward"is the main character of the story played by Johnny Depp, who by the way is one of my favorite actors in life, capable of playing characters in a masterful way always giving them his characteristic personal touch, this film represents for Johnny Depp a great leap in his career and the beginning of incipient collaborations with Tim Burton, generating successful films practically all of them.
- "Peg" interpretada por Dianne Wiestquien, se convierte en uno de los personajes más importantes de la historia al ser quien rescata a Edward y lo incluye dentro de la sociedad. Este personaje es mi favorito dentro de la historia porque a base de amor y paciencia es la característica representación de la bondad, de las virtudes que toda madre y ser humano debería poseer, y que como en toda sociedad corrompida por necesidades banales o reglas sin sentido, es rechazada.
- "Peg" played by Dianne Wiest, who becomes one of the most important characters in the story as the one who rescues Edward and includes him in society. This character is my favorite in the story because based on love and patience is the characteristic representation of goodness, of the virtues that every mother and human being should possess, and that as in any society corrupted by banal needs or meaningless rules, is rejected.
- "kim", interpretada por Winona Rider, también actriz increíble capaz de interpretar cualquier tipo de personajes y que se ha mantenido activa a lo largo de los años, sin ningún desperdicio en su carrera, en este caso su personaje es una ejemplificación de cómo la juventud siguiendo a un entorno errado puede llegarcometer graves errores, pero que si están formados en una familia con valores adecuados van a ser capaces de recapacitar su comportamiento y tomar las decisiones correctas en la vida.
"kim", played by Winona Rider, also an incredible actress capable of playing any type of character and who has remained active throughout the years, without any waste in her career, in this case her character is an exemplification of how youth following a wrong environment can make serious mistakes, but if they are formed in a family with proper values they will be able to reconsider their behavior and make the right decisions in life.

La película inicia como una historia contada por una abuela a su nieta a la hora de dormir en la época de navidad, cuando intenta explicarle de dónde surge la nieve que puede ver a través de la ventana.
The film begins as a story told by a grandmother to her granddaughter at bedtime at Christmas time, when she tries to explain to her where the snow she can see through the window comes from.

)En la historia tenemos como personaje principal a "Edward", el cual es un hombre creado de forma artificial por un inventor que tristemente falleció antes de terminarlo por completo, dejándolo con tijeras en vez de manos en sus extremidades. Creciendo solo y abandonado en una casa casi destruida en una pradera, prácticamente aislado de la civilización.
In the story we have as main character "Edward", which is a man created artificially by an inventor who sadly died before finishing it completely, leaving him with scissors instead of hands in his extremities. Growing up alone and abandoned in a nearly destroyed house in a prairie, practically isolated from civilization.
Paralelamente encontramos un pueblo, en el que, me permito recalcar el esfuerzo por parte del director por crear un ambiente de escenografía tratando de aludir a la "perfección" a través de colores pasteles para brindar tranquilidad en el espectador, se observan casas prácticamente repetitivas en estructura tratando de dar la sensación de perfecto control, y donde hasta los pobladores actúan bajo el mismo parámetro de personalidad. Bastante distinto al lugar donde vive "Edward" en una pradera, que aparenta ser un castillo embrujado, con matices entre el negro y el gris, casi destruido completamente por el tiempo, dando la impresión de total abandono soledad y tristeza. Pero que está rodeado por un jardín verdoso y lleno de vida, con árboles enormes moldeados en formas, y de flores con colores vibrantes contrastantes con lo oscuro y sombrío del interior de la casa donde se refugia Edward.
At the same time we find a town, in which, let me emphasize the director's effort to create an atmosphere of scenery trying to allude to the "perfection " through pastel colors to provide tranquility in the viewer, houses are observed almost repetitive in structure trying to give the feeling of perfect control, and where even the inhabitants act under the same parameter of personality. Quite different from the place where "Edward " lives in the meadow, which appears to be a haunted castle, with shades between black and gray, almost completely destroyed by time, giving the impression of total abandonment, loneliness and sadness. But it is surrounded by a greenish garden full of life, with huge trees molded into shapes, and many flowers with vibrant colors, contrasting with the dark and gloomy interior of the house where Edward takes refuge.
"Edward" es encontrado escondido en su "casa embrujada" gracia a un personaje llamado "Peg", la cual es una vendedora de cosméticos que en vista a que no tiene mucho éxito en las ventas en su pueblo, decide buscar nuevos horizontes y por ello se dirige a la casa de Edward. "Peg" ha aprendido las reglas de la sociedad donde vive, pero a diferencia de la mayoría de los pobladores que viven de superficialidades, tiene un gran corazón, y no juzga a Edward por su apariencia externa, el cual, por cierto, a simple vista aparenta ser bastante aterrador.
*Edward" is found hidden in his "haunted house" thanks to a character named "Peg", who is a cosmetics saleswoman who, since she is not very successful in sales in her town, decides to seek new horizons and therefore goes to Edward's house. *Peg" has learned the rules of the society where she lives, but unlike most of the villagers who live on superficialities, she has a big heart, and does not judge Edward by his outward appearance, which, by the way, at first glance appears to be quite frightening.
)Tras una breve conversación donde descubre que se encuentra abandonado, y que es básicamente un niño inocente y solitario, ésta decide llevárselo a su casa en su pueblo y básicamente adoptarlo.
After a brief conversation where she discovers that he is abandoned, and that he is basically an innocent and lonely child, she decides to take him home to her village and basically adopt him.
Por supuesto al llegar a su "pueblo perfecto", los lugareños acostumbrados todos a las características comunes entre ellos, se asombran al ver tal personaje que físicamente se nota: pálido, desarreglado, con un vestuario extraño, y con el que en general, casi no pueden entablar conversación, es decir, alguien completamente distinto a lo que ellos han visto hasta ahora y que no encaja en su molde social.
Of course upon arriving in their "perfect town ", the locals, all accustomed to the common characteristics among them, are astonished to see such a character who is physically noticeable: pale, disheveled, with a strange wardrobe, and with whom, in general, they can hardly engage in conversation, that is, someone completely different from what they have seen so far and who does not fit their social mold.
La familia de "Peg" lo encuentra inicialmente bastante extraño y mucho más para empezar a vivir con él, pero terminan siendo bastantes receptivos con él, ya que "Peg" los ha educado muy bien con respecto a aceptar a los demás y tener buenos valores familiares y sociales. Es ahí cuando a través de una fotografía "Edward" conoce a la hija de "Peg", llamada "Kim", de quien "Edward"se enamora al instante.
Peg's family initially finds him quite strange and even more so to start living with him, but they end up being quite receptive to him, since "Peg " has educated them very well in terms of accepting others and having good family and social values. It is there when through a photograph "Edward " meets "Peg "'s daughter, named "Kim ", with whom "Edward"falls in love instantly.
La película entonces se desenvuelve en cómo algunos lugareños reciben a "Edward" en su pueblo, tildandolo hasta de abominación por algunos juzgando su aspecto externo, pero extrañamente recibe bastante receptividad de la mayoría, sobretodo del público femenino, quienes lo ven "diferente" y por lo tanto atractivo físicamente; aunado a ésto cuando descubren las obras de artes que es capaz de hacer con sus tijeras quedan impresionados, de tal forma que, poco a poco, recibe peticiones de todo el vecindario, es entonces cuando notamos cómo la ambientación y los cuadros de imagen en la película cambian, modificándose progresivamente la estética del lugar haciéndolo muy parecido a lo que era el antiguo jardín de "Edward"; continúa luego convirtiéndose en el peluquero de todo el vecindario, actualizando la estética inclusive de los pobladores. Es así aceptado y se convierte en una especie de celebridad.
The film then unfolds in how some locals receive "Edward " in their town, branding him even as an abomination by some judging his external appearance, but strangely receives enough receptivity from the majority, especially the female audience, who see him "different " and therefore physically attractive; added to this when they discover the works of art that he is able to do with his scissors they are impressed, so that, little by little, he receives requests from the whole neighborhood, it is then when we notice how the ambience and the image frames in the film change, progressively modifying the aesthetics of the place making it very similar to what was the old garden of "Edward "; he continues then becoming the hairdresser of the whole neighborhood, updating the aesthetics even of the settlers. He is thus accepted and becomes a kind of celebrity.
"Edward" se demuestra como un ser inocente, no tiene maldad, no ha aprendido sobre la vanidad, ni la avaricia, o el odio, mientras continúa conviviendo en el vecindario va aprendiendo sobre las demás personas, pero es tan inocente y de tan buenos sentimientos, que confía ciegamente en los demás, por lo que es fácilmente manipulable. Esto lo convierte en un blanco fácil para ser utilizado por "Kim", quien guiada por su novio ambicioso, deciden utilizar a "Edward" para que los ayude a cometer un robo; "Edward" guiado sólo por sus sentimientos por Kim hace lo que ella le dice, pero al no conocer las leyes sociales, ni tener claridad sobre el bien y el mal, es llevado preso.
Edward " is shown as an innocent being, he has no evil, he has not learned about vanity, greed, or hatred, as he continues to live in the neighborhood he learns about other people, but he is so innocent and with such good feelings, that he trusts blindly in others, so he is easily manipulated. This makes him an easy target to be used by "Kim ", who guided by her greedy boyfriend, decide to use "Edward " to help them commit a robbery; "Edward" guided only by his feelings for Kim does what she tells him, but not knowing the social laws, nor having clarity about right and wrong, is taken prisoner.
Este acontecimiento se convierte en algo verdaderamente traumático para "Edward", pero le permite darse cuenta de algunas cosas, como su falta de conciencia sobre la realidad, debido a su aislamiento, y su falta de distinción sobre el bien y el mal; pero sobretodo se siente muy herido porque la persona que él quiere, lo utilizó para hacer algo incorrecto, es entonces cuando entiende que no todos son igual de buenos que él.
This event becomes truly traumatic for "Edward ", but it allows him to realize some things, such as his lack of awareness about reality, due to his isolation, and his lack of distinction about good and evil; but above all he feels very hurt because the person he loves, used him to do something wrong, it is then when he understands that not everyone is as good as he is.
Inicia entonces una crisis de identidad en "Edward" cuando comienza compararse físicamente con el novio de "Kim" y en general al comprender que el mundo no es como él lo veía y que las personas pueden estar llenas de maldad, sentimiento que él desconocía. Por otro lado siente mucho haber decepcionado a la persona que lo introdujo a su casa ("Peg"), y por quien siente un gran aprecio, por haberle brindado el cariño y bondad que nunca alguien le había brindado.
Then begins an identity crisis in "Edward " when he begins to compare himself physically with "Kim "'s boyfriend and in general to understand that the world is not as he saw it and that people can be full of evil, a feeling that he did not know. On the other hand, he feels very sorry for having disappointed the person who introduced him to his home ("Peg "), and for whom he feels a great appreciation, for having given him the affection and kindness that no one had ever given him.
Edward se crió solo y sin seguir normas sociales por lo que no conoce lo que es socialmente aceptable, él solo actúa en base a sus sentimientos y a su bondad, pero tristemente en este momento, se da cuenta de que eso no es suficiente en el mundo. Es de esta forma cuando Kim nota el sacrificio de Edward al haber estado preso y no haberla acusado, y comienza a enamorarse de él.
Edward grew up alone and without following social norms so he does not know what is socially acceptable, he only acts based on his feelings and kindness, but sadly at this moment, he realizes that this is not enough in the world. It is in this way when Kim notices Edward's sacrifice of having been imprisoned and not having accused her, and she begins to fall in love with him.
Llega entonces la época de navidad y muestran una de las escenas más hermosas de la película, y que es clave para entender la razón de la película, cuando estando en el jardín en noche buena, edward está moldeando en hielo una escultura enorme de un ángel, haciendo que se disperse el hielo alrededor, generando partículas de hielo parecidas a la nieve, y Kim al observar tal magnificencia se queda impactada, siendo tal su alegría que empieza a bailar debajo de "la nieve"
Then comes the Christmas season and they show one of the most beautiful scenes of the film, which is key to understand the reason of the movie, when being in the garden on Christmas Eve, Edward is molding in ice a huge sculpture of an angel, making the ice scatter around, generating ice particles similar to snow, and Kim to observe such magnificence is shocked, being such her joy that she begins to dance under the "snow".
Posterior a esto se desarrollan una serie de eventos desafortunados originados por los celos del novio de Kim, quien al darse cuenta de que ésta, empieza a ver con otros ojos a Edward, y guiado por la venganza y la maldad, lo acusa de intentar hacerle daño a kim y a su hermano menor, esparciendo la noticia por el vecindario. Edwar conoce entonces por fin el sentimiento de odio hacia una persona, por lo que estando muy molesto, se aleja del lugar, cortando parte de los árboles que había moldeado por todo el vecindario, generando una especie de caos en el pueblo. Haciendo que los lugareños se asusten, llamen a la policía, y éste tras seguir las recomendaciones de Kim decide abandonar el pueblo.
After this, a series of unfortunate events unfold, caused by the jealousy of Kim's boyfriend, who, realizing that Kim is beginning to see Edward with different eyes, and guided by revenge and malice, accuses him of trying to harm Kim and her younger brother, spreading the news throughout the neighborhood. Edwar then finally knows the feeling of hatred towards a person, so being very upset, he moves away from the place, cutting part of the trees he had molded all over the neighborhood, generating a kind of chaos in the town. Making the locals panic, they call the police, and after following Kim's recommendations, he decides to leave the town.
Kim lo sigue hasta su antigua casa y por fin reconoce que lo ama y que estaba preocupada por él, pero estando ahí aparece su novio, quien tras una discusión la golpea. Edward que nunca había sentido tanto dolor y odio empeorado ahora por lo que acaba de ver, no sabe cómo responder y tratando de defender a Kim, tras un movimiento de sus tijeras, hiere a su ahora exnovio, lo que origina que éste se caiga a través de una ventana y muera; para culminar esta escena Kim decide mentir para salvarlo y les da a creer a todos que Edward también falleció tras la discusión.
Kim follows him to his old house and at last tells him that she loves him and that she was worried about him, but while there her boyfriend appears, who after an argument hits her. Edward, who had never felt so much pain and hatred worsened now by what he has just seen, does not know how to respond and trying to defend Kim, after a movement of his scissors, hurts her now ex-boyfriend, which causes him to fall through a window and die; to culminate this scene Kim decides to lie to save him and gives everyone to believe that Edward also died after the argument.
Un momento cumbre de la película es durante un flashback en el que Edward recuerda cuando su creador le dió como regalo adelantado de Navidad lo último que le faltaba para completar su humanidad, las manos que había creado para él, pero justo después de eso falleció y nunca pudo colocarselas, por lo que tuvo que permanecer toda su vida con manos de tijeras.
A highlight of the film is during a flashback in which Edward remembers when his creator gave him as an early Christmas present the last thing he lacked to complete his humanity, the
hands he had created for him, but right after that he passes away and was never able to put them on, so he had to remain all his life with scissor hands.
La película finaliza cuando la abuelita del inicio, culmina la historia que le contaba a su nieta antes de dormir, dando a conocer que ese personaje era realmente Kim que le estaba contando la historia de su vivencia con Edward en el pasado, ésta le asegura a su nieta, quien duda de la veracidad de la historia, que es una historia real porque ella estuvo en ella y que está segura de que Edward continúa vivo porque antes de que él llegara al pueblo, nunca había nevado, pero desde que él se fue nieva siempre en cada navidad, dando a entender que el origen de la nieve es por las esculturas que hacía Edward en el hielo.
The film ends when the grandmother at the beginning, culminates the story she was telling her granddaughter before going to sleep, revealing that this character was really Kim who was telling her the story of her experience with Edward in the past, she assures her granddaughter, who doubts the veracity of the story, that it is a true story because she was in it and that she is sure that Edward is still alive because before he came to town, it had never snowed, but since he left it always snows at each Christmas, implying that the origin of the snow is because of the sculptures that Edward made in the ice.
La última escena muestra a Edward en su antigua casa moldeando figuras de hielo y esparciendo hielo a través de su ventana, que representa la "nieve" que se esparce por todo el pueblo.
The last scene shows Edward in his old house molding ice figures and spreading ice through his window, which is the "snow" that spreads throughout the town.
Esta película a través de edward, nos demuestra como un ser inicialmente puede llegar a tener tal grado de inocencia que no ve absoluta maldad en su alrededor, y es la sociedad la que se encarga de despertar en él malos sentimientos como la ira o de rencor, al usarlo cuando le es útil, pero lo juzgan al primer error que cometió, sin importar todas los actos buenos que haya realizado en el pasado, o todos los buenos sentimientos que haya demostrado tener, dando a conocer como puede haber más humanidad en lo que es un ser artificial, que en el propio ser humano. Por otro lado nos demuestra cómo aún cuando Edward nunca pudo recibir el regalo de navidad de parte de su creador, que era tener manos de verdad, él decide convertir su limitación en regalos para otros, haciéndolos felices a través de sus esculturas o sus cambios de imagen; y la mayor demostración de amor la realiza cuando finalmente aun cuando tiene que vivir nuevamente aislado de todos en un lugar triste y sombrío, decide regalar en cada navidad lo que más disfrutaba la persona que él amó, que era poder disfrutar la caída de la nieve. Entonces se nos queda claro como para "Edward" el sentido de la navidad pasa a ser el simple hecho de hacer feliz a su persona amada.
This film, through Edward, shows us how a being can initially have such a degree of innocence that he does not see absolute evil around him, and it is society that is responsible for awakening in him bad feelings such as anger or resentment, using him when he is useful, but they judge him at the first mistake he made, regardless of all the good deeds he has done in the past, or all the good feelings he has shown to have, showing how there can be more humanity in what is an artificial being, than in the human being himself. On the other hand, it shows us how even when Edward could never receive the Christmas gift from his creator, which was to have real hands, he decides to turn his limitation into gifts for others, making them happy through his sculptures or his changes of image; and the greatest demonstration of love is when finally, even when he has to live again isolated from everyone in a sad and gloomy place, he decides to give every Christmas what the person he loved most enjoyed, which was to enjoy the falling snow. Then it becomes clear to us how for "Edward " the meaning of Christmas becomes the simple fact of making his loved one.
Y bueno mis queridos Hivers les dejé a lo largo mi revisión, el análisis que he hecho a través de los años de la
película y los personajes, que es la razón principal, además de hacer reminiscencia de mi infancia, por la que en cada navidad quiero verla nuevamente; para mi es un film hermoso, que brinda mucho aprendizaje ideal para los niños, adolescentes, y público en general que admire el arte, y que finalmente te demuestra como la navidad puede ser lo que nosotros imaginemos que sea.
