I have always liked legal films based on true events. And as often happens, such facts are first described in books. The book in question was written by Jonathan Harr. Harr was hired in 1984 as an editor for the "New Haven Advocate" magazine Thanks to this work he learned about the leukemia deaths that occurred in the town of Woburn, Massachusetts, caused by toxic chemicals seeping into drinking water.
He begins to take an interest in the case: a civil action among the inhabitants of the town against the large chemical companies responsible for these deaths; He spent 7 years working to analyze all the trial data and created a manuscript from which this legal movie was developed. Of course, the law firm of which Jan Schlichtmann (John Travolta) belongs against the powerful law firms of the industrial giants is like racing a Fiat 500 against a Formula One Ferrari.
And playing the devil's advocate here we find the great Robert Duvall, who with his lawyer's briefcase held together with duct tape plays a rather particular lawyer. The dialogues in the film are intelligent and constructive, as one should expect from a film of this type, even the interrogations in the courtroom are very engaging....it's worth watching!!!
True stories are never predictable, in fact Jan Schlichtmann remains completely without money to support this cause so he cannot appeal and decides to literally send "a truck" of documents to the EPA (American Federal Environmental Protection Agency) ; for those who haven't seen it yet, I won't say anything else, just enjoy the film..... Mi sono sempre piaciuti i film legali basati su eventi realmente accaduti. E come spesso accade, tali fatti vengono descritti per la prima volta nei libri. Il libro in questione è stato scritto da Jonathan Harr. Harr fu assunto nel 1984 come redattore per la rivista "New Haven Advocate". Grazie a questo lavoro venne a conoscenza dei decessi per leucemia avvenuti nella città di Woburn, Massachusetts, causati da sostanze chimiche tossiche penetrate nell'acqua potabile.
Comincia ad interessarsi al caso: una causa civile tra gli abitanti del paese contro le grandi aziende chimiche responsabili di queste morti; Ha trascorso 7 anni lavorando per analizzare tutti i dati del processo e ha creato un manoscritto da cui è stato sviluppato questo film legale. Naturalmente, lo studio legale di cui fa parte Jan Schlichtmann (John Travolta) contro i potenti studi legali dei giganti industriali è come gareggiare con una Fiat 500 contro una Ferrari di Formula Uno.
E a fare l'avvocato del diavolo qua troviamo il grande Robert Duvall,che con la sua valigetta da avvocato tenuta insieme col nastro adesivo interpreta un avvocato abbastanza particolare.
I dialoghi nel film sono intelligenti e costruttivi, come ci si dovrebbe aspettare da un film di qusto tipo, anche gli interrogatori in aula sono molto coinvolgenti....è da guardare!!! Le storie vere non sono mai prevedibili,infatti Jan Schlichtmann rimane completamente senza soldi per sostenere questa causa quindi non può ricorrere in appello e decide di inviare letteralmente "un camion" di documenti all'EPA (Agenzia Federale Americana per la Protezione dell'Ambiente); per chi non l'ha ancora visto non dico altro, godetevi semplicemente il film.....
