Greetings dear hivers, especially to those who enjoy movies any day of the week. This time I want to share with you a science fiction film, a film that fulfills its main function: to entertain. I am referring to Timecop from 1994, a realization of Peter Hyams that counts with the main performances of Jean-Claude Van Damme as the main character, Ron Silver as the antagonist and the attractive Mia Sara as the hero's companion.

En esta oportunidad quiero compartirles un film de ciencia ficción, una película que cumple su función principal: entretener. Me refiero a Timecop de 1994, una realización de Peter Hyams que cuenta con las actuaciones principales de Jean-Claude Van Damme como protagonista, Ron Silver de antagonista y la atractiva Mia Sara de compañera del héroe.

In a modern world, the year is 1994 and time travel is possible. A criminal group has dedicated itself to travel to the past with the intention of getting rich, so it has installed a special agency (TEC) that will work in secret in order to put an end to their plans. Here comes into play the agent Max Walker who is called to join the ranks of this special corp of time, Walker is not entirely convinced. During the night, his residence is attacked by an unknown group resulting in his wife Melissa (Mia Sara) being killed and the agent badly wounded. A decade later we find Walker in the year 1929 arresting his former partner in the Time Task Force who has taken advantage of the events of “The Great Depression” to profit on Wall Street. After action scenes that pay for the box office and an impressive physical display by Van Damme, he manages to stop the ex-agent who, after interrogating him, reveals that Senator Aaron McComb (Ron Silver) is the one behind the crimes of the past with the aim of making a fortune that will allow him to become president of the White House. From this point on, a time spiral of action and survival is unleashed, demanding from Walker all his experience and skill in a very dangerous past and a present where there will be few to trust.
Vamos allá... En un mundo moderno corre el año 1994 y los viajes en el tiempo son posibles. Un grupo delictivo se ha dedicado a viajar al pasado con la intención de enriquecerse por lo que se ha instalado una agencia especial (TEC) que trabajará en secreto con el fin de dar al traste con sus planes. Aquí entra en el juego el agente Max Walker quien es llamado a incorporarse a las filas de este cuerpo especial del tiempo, Walker no está convencido del todo. Durante la noche, su residencia es atacada por un grupo desconocido resultando asesinada su esposa Melissa (Mia Sara) y el agente mal herido. Una década después encontramos a Walker en el año 1929 deteniendo a su ex compañero del cuerpo especial del tiempo quien se haya aprovechando los acontecimientos de "La gran depresión" para sacar provecho en Wall street. Luego de las escenas de acción que pagan la boletería y un despliegue físico impresionante de Van Damme, éste logra detener al ex-agente quien luego de interrogarlo revela que el Senador Aaron McComb (Ron Silver) es quien está detrás de los crímenes del pasado con el objetivo de hacer una fortuna que le permita convertirse en presidente de la Casa Blanca. A partir de aquí una espiral temporal de acción y supervivencia se desencadena exigiendo de Walker toda su experiencia y habilidad en un pasado muy peligroso y un presente donde habrá pocos en quien confiar.
My impressions / Mis impresiones.
I remember the first time I saw this movie, it had just been released and it was playing in one of the video stores I used to frequent in my small town, I arrived at the counter just at the moment when the gunman from the future draws his guns against a group of confederates, the next thing I knew I spent 80 minutes standing there until it was over. Time travel, constant action and Jean-Claude Van Damme made it a recipe that couldn't fail. I was impressed at the time by the effects used, more than by the quality, the good handling of them and the development of the time jump theme which was also sufficient. It must be taken into account that this theme had already been explored before and later with more or less success. The film meets the expectations of a light and entertaining show, far from being spectacular, it fulfills the premise of a work of action. Without claiming to be a scholar on the subject of temporal physics, it manages to develop it coherently, adding a few surprises and small turning points that spice up the action that Van Damme wastes. There are plenty of better works by this actor, but come on, if you just want to have a good time with science fiction, time jumps and Van Damme, this recipe can't go wrong.
Recuerdo la primera vez que vi esta película, recién se había estrenado y la estaban pasando en uno de los videoclubs que solía frecuentar de mi pequeña ciudad, llegué al mostrador justo en el momento en el que el pistolero del futuro desenfunda sus armas en contra de un grupo de confederados, lo siguiente que supe es que pase 80 minutos allí parado hasta que terminó. Y es que, viajes en el tiempo, acción constante y Jean-Claude Van Damme hacían de aquella una receta que no podía fallar. Me impresionaron en aquel momento los efectos utilizados, más que por la calidad, el buen manejo de los mismos y el desarrollo de la temática del salto temporal el cual también fue suficiente. Hay que tener en cuenta que ya este tema había sido explorado antes y después con mayor o menor éxito. La película resuelve las expectativas de un show ligero y entretenido, lejos de ser espectacular, cumple con la premisa de una obra de acción. Sin pretender mayor erudición en el tema de la física temporal logra desarrollarlo coherentemente añadiendo pizcas de sorpresas y pequeños puntos de quiebre que sazonan la acción que derrocha Van Damme. Obras de mejor factura abundan, de éste actor me resulta de las mejores, pero venga, si solo quieres pasar un buen rato de ciencia ficción, saltos en el tiempo y Van Damme esta receta no puede salir mal.
