Todo estaban tras la pista de Aileen Wuornos, una mujer que aparentemente, después de haber sido contratada como sexo servidora, finalizaba sus actos asesinando a sus "clientes". Esta es la historia, análisis y mi opinión personal sobre "Monster", una película impactante y que da qué pensar...

For the role, she had to gain more than 15 kilos to assimilate with the original character. She also had to undergo long hours of make-up and facial and dental prostheses that emulated the appearance of the controversial serial killer. In the film we can see the evolution of a character. It begins with a brief passage through her childhood.
In her early years, Wournos had to endure violence as her only expression of life. What does this mean, exactly? First of all, her biological father repeatedly abused her and her younger brother. This was not enough, he abandoned them both to their fate, forcing the Wuornos boys' mother to commit suicide a few years later (she was a substance abuser and curiously also suffered abuse from Aileen's grandmothers, i.e. her father). Also, with no biological parents, custody of the children passed to the maternal grandparents.

También tuvo que someterse a largas horas de maquillaje y prótesis faciales y dentales que emulaban la apariencia que tuvo la controversial asesina serial. En el film podemos ver la evolución de un personaje. Mismo que da inicio con un breve paso por su infancia.
En sus primeros años, Wournos tuvo que soportar la violencia como única expresión de vida ¿Qué significa esto, exactamente? En primer lugar, su padre biológico, abusó reiteradas veces de ella y de su hermano menor. No bastando esto, los abandonó a ambos a su suerte, obligando que pocos años después la madre de los chicos Wuornos, terminara suicidándose (consumía sustancias fuertes y curiosamente también sufrió abusos de los abuelas de Aileen, es decir, de su padre). Asimismo, al no contar con padres biológicos, la custodia de los menores pasó a manos de los abuelos maternos.

And this is neither an exaggerated conception nor an angry compliment to the actress. Nothing could be further from the truth. For those who have seen the film, I can tell you, the performance is filled with such strong anger that it is impossible not to empathise with the role we see on screen. A woman whose only language she knows how to relate to is that of violence, abuse, domination and evil.
En ese tramo de la corta vida de ese par de niños, en lugar de hallar un sitio tranquilo, que les ayude a sanar los traumas y heridas que tan jóvenes tuvieron que experimentar, también tuvieron que soportar las palizas y golpizas que recibían del abuelo materno. Un niño traumado, será eventualmente, un adulto traumado. Esta premisa es absolutamente precisa para explicar lo que había dentro del pensamiento de Wuornos. Charlize Theron, es una genia. Y esto no es una concepción exagerada ni un airado elogio para con la actriz. Nada más alejado de la realidad. Para aquellos que han visto el film, puedo decirles, que la interpretación está llena de una ira tan fuerte que es imposible no empatizar con el papel que vemos en pantalla. Una mujer que el único idioma que conoce para relacionarse es el de la violencia, los abusos, la dominación y el mal.

Can the traumatic events that this woman had to endure and suffer be separated from what she ended up becoming, or, on the other hand, should they be conceived as the sum of a whole? From my perspective, I believe that what Jenkins (director and screenwriter of this masterpiece of biopic cinema) wanted to show is that there is no such thing as spontaneous evil. At no time do I justify the actions of unconscionable cruelty that she knew how to do for her own selfish benefit, without thinking of the consequences of her actions. But neither can I omit from the analysis that the only thing she knew first hand is cruelty; nothing else.
Durante la historia que se desarrolla en Monster, podemos ver cómo un ser humano, una mujer, tiene que sobrevivir ante la mirada de la indiferencia. La acusación, la violencia y el repudio; que representan las únicas formas de ser notada que conoce y siente. Incluso, en el amor (Wuornos, sostuvo una relación homosexual que es desarrollada en paralelo en el film). De esta manera, podemos entender la complejidad del comportamiento de Aileen. Y eso, que no he introducido los notables desórdenes y trastornos psicológicos y psiquiátricos que su tormentosa y cruel infancia tuvieron en su ser.
¿Se pueden separar los hechos traumáticos que tuvo que soportar y sufrir esta mujer de lo que terminó convirtiéndose? o por otro lado, ¿deberían concebirse como la suma de un todo? Desde mi perspectiva, considero que lo que Jenkins (directora y guionista de esta obra maestra del cine biopic) quiso mostrar, es que no existe tal cosa como un mal espontáneo. En ningún momento, justifico las acciones de crueldad desmedida que ella supo hacer para su beneficio egoísta, sin pensar en las consecuencias de sus actos. Pero tampoco, puedo omitir dentro del análisis, que lo único que conocía de primera mano es la crueldad; nada más.

Un individuo sólo, desterrado al lado más oscuro y cruel del comportamiento humano, y además señalado como exactamente nos indica el título del largometraje, una "Monster". Éso que nadie quiere ser, ver, contemplar, estudiar, analizar, o siquiera, toparse. Definitivamente, una cuestión que amamos como sociedad señalar pero que muy pocas reparamos en prevenir las causas que hacen que una niña traumada termine por convertirse en una máquina de crueldad...
