Nic Cage is timeless

Between Worlds is Cageā€™s 3rd movie filmed in Mobile, AL and the 4th time heā€™s played a
character named Joe.

This film however stands out from all of those other roles for Mr. Cage. Itā€™s stilly Cagey, donā€™t you worry about that.

There is something about Nicolas Cage that is comedic, relatable, and just well-rounded. Some may think of the movies he is in nowadays as low-budget. The truth is, if youā€™re in the right state of mind and can appreciate his movies for what they are instead of expecting something specific, then Nic Cage is in many hidden gems.

Between worlds is for certain one of those often overlooked films that has a lot to offer. The story is so deep and full of loops in this one. Plus youā€™re sure to get some wicked laughs, you know the ones that Cage is so damn good at providing.

What is it about?

The story follows Joe (Nicolas Cage), a down-on-his-luck truck driver haunted by the memory of his deceased wife and child. He meets Julie (Franka Potente), a spiritually gifted woman who enlists Joe in a desperate effort to find the lost soul of her comatose daughter, Billie (Penelope Mitchell). But the spirit of Joe's dead wife Mary proves stronger, possessing the young woman's body and determined to settle her unfinished business with the living.

Awkwardly comical

Joe is a trucker through and through. Cage is grimy and at his lowest. He just happens to be in the right place at the right time, getting himself involved in a weird situation. Right from the start of the movie you are going to either be loving it or thinking what the hell. It only gets better from the beginning stages, the plot unfolds in ways you would never imagine.

Painfully deep

You will find out how Joe lost his wife and daughter. He gets a chance to connect with them between our world and the spirit realm. Once Joe realizes this is a thing, he becomes obsessed with the idea of potentially having his wife back. So he clings to the only person he knows that has any idea about the spirit world, Julie.

Rekindling an old flame

Julieā€™s daughter awakens from a coma acting totally different. This is something that happens in real-life after someone has a serious accident. People often are never the same upon regaining consciousness. Head injury and drug addiction are both common. Iā€™ve always considered the possibility that spirits have a way of maneuvering at their own velocity. This movie takes that idea to new limits and does so successfully. Julieā€™s teenage daughter Billie is now more connected to Joe than he knows.

Knocked out of the park

If you only went by the reviews for this movie, then youā€™d never give it a chance. However if youā€™re open to something that has potential and youā€™re a fan of Nic Cage, youā€™ll be thrilled to sit through Between Worlds.

There are even some nods towards Nic Cage in real life. His signature red leather jacket makes an appearance. One of the single best moments of the movie is when Joe begins to read from ā€œMemoriesā€by: Nicolas Cage, during a vivid sex scene. Itā€™s downright brilliant and shows why Nic Cage is still in movie after movie each year; for over 40 years. (1981-2021)

Nicolas Cage has been a reputable actor since the 1980s. Itā€™s crazy to think that 40 years later this man is still able to do new things. I think itā€™s insane to say that heā€™s not a top 10 actor if all-time. Just look at this manā€™s credentials.
