Do you know about the most wettest place in our world? A place that receives the highest rainfall in the world (the most wettest place), it's located in Meghalaya, North East India.
Mawsynram is a place/village in India that gets the most rain in the whole world. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, this place rains almost 11,400 millimeters in a year, which is more than 37 feet of rain every year.
But what is the reason for so much rain?
The reason for so much rain is because of where the village is located, it's special location.
Mawsynram is in the Khasi Hills in the state of Meghalaya. When the monsoon season comes, the air from the Indian Ocean, especially the Bay of Bengal, carries a lot of moisture. As this moist air travels into India, the Khasi Hills are the first mountains it hits.
When the moist air hits these hills, it has to rise up. As it rises, it cools down, and the moisture turns into heavy rain. This is why Mawsynram gets so much rain, especially during the monsoon season, which is when it gets about 70% of its yearly rainfall.
This is the reason why this place receives so much rain, which makes it the wettest place in the world.
