Old Jaffa and the Port of Jaffa two iconic places in Tel Aviv, Israel
Hello travelers from all over the world
Today I want to stay somewhere in the area of Israel, yes in the place I like very much, namely Tel Aviv.
So we are going to explore one of the oldest Mediterranean ports with an existence of more than 4000 years, it seems that the very name of the port has biblical connotations.
Jaffa or Iaffa as it was still known was one of the most important ports of Israel, only when Caesarea appeared its importance decreased considerably, if you search a little through my recent posts you will find a special post about Caesarea, I say it's worth taking a look there.
As usual the exploration starts on the busy city streets but the real foray into the history of the place begins on those narrow cobbled streets where from time to time you will find local boutiques where you can buy souvenirs or anything else to remind you that you have been here.
The first stop was at a kind of view point from where we could see the sea.
For orientation, the signs with information about the area were helpful.
At least I was amazed by the streets where you could find a shop with souvenirs and other items.
After a good few minutes exploring these narrow lanes and of course after buying a few things for home we came across a shy sign pointing us in the direction of the harbour, but it seems we are on the right track.
We had a great surprise when from an alley in this narrow street we woke up with the sea in front of us, we couldn't believe how beautiful this place is.
The first steps I took were over "The Orange Steps", these are the original steps from the Ottoman period, I can't believe I'm stepping on such an important place in Israel's history.
It only took a few steps and already the promenade was full of people, despite the fact that there were a lot of people here I felt an amazing silence, people were socializing and sitting on the terraces by the sea, it was really a holiday atmosphere.
We quickly integrated into this atmosphere, we wanted to sit down at one of the terraces to eat some seafood, but frankly the prices were too high, so we decided to eat elsewhere, where we had eaten before and knew everything was fine (value for money).
The sun's rays reflected in the sea water and the harbour with those little boats looked spectacular, yes we explored the harbour area a bit where we saw from the smallest boats to quite big sailing ships.
Somewhere on this promenade I met on foot a very ingenious thing, it had as starting point the port of Jaffa and next to it we had written the distances to other points of interest, it was similar to a globe, very funny.
From here the port also organized boat trips by sea, we did not try this experience here because we have been many times in such trips and we chose to visit other places and do other activities that we have not done before.
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.
