A hidden paradise!
The island of Majorca is a stunning place. Here you can go from multi million Euro yachts to small quaint traditional villages in less than an hour. It is an island that relies heavily on tourism. There are hundreds of small coves that you can reach by the road and quite a few that you will need a boat to get to. Torrent de Pareis can be reached by car or boat. Don't let that stop you however from making this journey.
This is just one of the bigger yachts we came across.
We traveled from Palma, the capital city on Majorca by car. What an exceptional journey it is. If you ever get a chance to take this road, jump at it with both hands. The road has a very catchy title of the MA-2141 and it's located in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains. It is like a string of tarmac running down the side of valleys, just an exceptional drivers road. In fact, this road was on top gear many years ago where James may raced 2 downhill skateboarders.
Dont worry, Mrs Moon took this image while I was doing the driving!
Just look at that, so many turns!
Our weapon of choice, Fiat 500, this suited the tight windy roads perfectly. What a fun little car this was!
But enough about the road, where we're going we don't need roads! The total journey from Palma to Torrent de Pareis was about 50 min. When we arrived there was a queue to get into the car park, it only took about 5 min but showed just how popular this area actually is. Oh, we went at the end of September, so not high season at all. I would advise you to bring cash to pay on exiting the car park too. The booth operator became quite irate when we told him we only had card to pay. Yet he did have a card machine to facilitate payment, so your guess is as good as mine.
After leaving the carpark it is approx a 10 minute walk. You get to walk through the cliff side where there are man made tunnels, all well lit but still a nice escape from the searing heat on a hot day. But before we got to the tunnels we came across this little guy!
Praying mantis, ready to strike!
In the background you can see just some of the restaurants and bars that are available in the area. There is also a small bay here but that wasn't what we came to see.
When we got to this point we knew that we were close, the walls of the canyon started closing in. Then we reached the tunnels!
As we exited the tunnel we got a clear view of the many yachts in the bay.
I do hope you have enjoyed our journey to Torrent de Pareis - Majorca it was one of my most memorable trips. We had such a great day on this journey and we were full of fun and laughter by the end of it!
