Fish… and Turtles! Fishy – Turtles!

Welcome to another edition of #KeepExploring in which I take you with me to a spot (here on Curacao). It’s part of my self-made schedule for the #HiveBloPoMo and I’m glad to show off Curacao.

Welcome to Playa Piskado, Curacao!

Playa Piskado is translated to fisher’s beach cause well, the fishermen gather there!
Another name for the is beach is Playa Grandi (which means big beach).
It on the most western area of the island called Westpunt (you can already guess what that mean right).

It’s an interesting beach because of the local community involved. You see fishing is a big part of the culture here. There are typical scenes, including the boats that to me fall into the category of ‘Typical Curacao’. I mean if you ask me to make a collage or photobook and tell the story of Curacao in images these boats are definitely part of it!
These fishermen leave for their catch and sell fresh fish right there on the beach. It’s basically the freshest fish you can eat as they clean the fish right there on the beach when you buy.

But wait there’s more!

There are…..Turtles! Everyone loves turtles and there are about 7 of them living in the waters near that beach. I think a part of the reason is the fact the fish are cleaned right there on the beach so the turtles have found a guaranteed meal so they stick around.
It’s become a huge tourist attraction as you can bring your snorkel, jump, and be one with the turtles.
At first I had my doubts if this is actually good for the turtles but this is all happening under the local sea-life organization here. They even have names…
Fair warning you should never, may never touch them. If you’re cool, they’re cool. And that makes for some awesome pics!

To be honest this is not necessarily my favorite place to swim but it’s a beach, on Curacao, so it’s definitely possible .
Just thought I’d mention that 
