Hello, Hive travel buddies! How are you feeling today? I hope you are all doing great right now as you read this new blog.
Today, I'll share with you our boat riding experience at Burnham Park in Baguio City. It was our last day in the summer capital of the Philippines, and we decided to stay for the remaining hours in their park. When we arrived there, the rain poured, and we ran to a small cafe located inside the park. I asked my wife to order a hot drink, but our former district supervisor treated all of us.
When the rain stopped, we went to the man-made lake to experience riding a boat on that famous tourist attraction of the city. We need to rent three boats so that all of us can ride on them. I was supposed not to join the team, but ma'am Delia said that she would pay for the rent as long as everyone would join. We then entered the entrance and directly went to the area for the wearing of life jackets.
We thought someone from the staff would row the boat for us for free. The staff said we need to pay to hire someone to do the job. Since we wanted to enjoy our thirty minutes of riding the boat, ma'am Judith decided to pull the oars for us to move toward the center. I was supposed to be the photographer, but unfortunately, our boat did not move. 😂 Then I decided to take over pulling the oars in order for us to have a movement. I thought it was just easy to control the movement of a small boat since there were only eight passengers in our group, including the kids.
All of us were enjoying the moment, especially when the other boats nearly hit us since there were plenty of occupied boats floating in the lake. Isa also tried to pull the oars while our kids helped her. But since the oars are heavy, I needed to take over again. Though the city is cold, I was really sweating, and my asthma was about to attack. 😅 We were supposed to ride for thirty minutes, but we lasted for an hour because I moved the boat away from the staff. LOLS.
It was indeed a memorable experience for all of us. We had so much joy, as if we were all kids laughing out loud. It's something our kids will always look back on when they hear about the city. I am looking forward to being back and experiencing the swan boats. After the tiring activity, though I was the only tired person in our group, they rented different kinds of bikes. But I told my wife that I needed to go back to the transient house to take a rest. Luckily, ma'am Delia also wanted to go back to our transient house. It's within walking distance, but ma'am Delia could not take a long walk. She again paid for our ride, and when we arrived at our room, I changed my shirt and took some rest.
The boat ride at Burnham Park really made our day since it was also the last day of staying in Baguio City. It made me even more aware of the efforts of our fishermen, who use small fishing boats and need to pull an oar in the middle of the ocean. It also made me think that life is like a boat; we need to control its oars in order to reach our destination. It might be tiring and somewhat make us feel lazy to move, but we have to embrace it and endure the pain in order to experience happiness and satisfaction.
