In the previous post I told you about my experience during the hike up Grouse Mountain north of the beautiful city of Vancouver via the Grouse Grind Trail. Now I'm going to tell you about my experience at the top of the mountain. Although in this chapter I'm only going to focus mainly on two sites that showcase Canada's iconic wildlife, I should start by telling you that Grouse Mountain offers many other fun and recreational options for the whole family, from outdoor shows to activities that require a bit of bravery and a desire to live the most incredible experiences.
En el post anterior les narré mi experiencia durante la caminata para subir la Montaña Grouse al norte de la bella ciudad de Vancouver a través del Sendero Grouse Grind. Ahora les voy a contar mi vivencia en la cima de la montaña. Aunque en este capítulo sólo me voy a enfocar principalmente en dos sitios que muestran la fauna silvestre emblemática de Canadá, debo empezar por comentarles que la montaña Grouse ofrece muchas otras opciones de diversión y esparcimiento para toda la familia, desde shows al aire libre hasta actividades que requieren un poco de valentía y ganas de vivir las más increíbles experiencias.
As you can see on the map, after the almost three-kilometer hike up the steep Grouse Grind trail, I had to walk more than half a kilometer to reach the grizzly bear habitat. But I remember that I had to have walked much further because for a moment I was lost and was on the wrong path. 😂
Como pueden apreciar en el mapa, después de la caminata de casi tres kilómetros por el sendero empinado Grouse Grind, tuve que caminar más de medio kilómetro para llegar al hábitat del oso grizzly. Pero recuerdo que tuve que haber caminado mucho más porque por un momento estuve perdido y estaba en el camino equivocado. 😂

WHAT TO DO IN GROUSE
The one thing I can assure you won't do in Grouse is rest! My feet hurt from all the walking, but as the saying goes: it never hurts to walk, and while I'm on my travel adventures I put up with everything. 😂
After changing my soaked flannel for a dry one due to the two-hour walk and the excessive humidity and cold, the first thing I did was to make sure of the time and schedules of each show or attraction because I didn't want to miss anything. Of course, in the end, I was not able to experience some things because the time was too short for all the activities offered.
On this hill is the refuge of the grizzly bears. It is a huge space where the bears live in their habitat with all kinds of environments.
En esta colina se encuentra el refugio de los osos grizzly. Es un espacio enorme donde los osos conviven en su hábitat con toda clase de ambientes.
In Grouse you also have the possibility to buy food or snacks in the adorable little house of Beaver Tails.

QUÉ HACER EN GROUSE
¡Lo único que te aseguro no vas a hacer en Grouse es descansar! A mí me dolían los pies de tanto caminar, pero como reza el dicho: sarna con gusto no pica y mientras estoy en mis aventuras de viaje soporto de todo. 😂
Después de cambiar mi franela empapada por una seca, debido a la caminata de dos horas y la excesiva humedad y frío, lo primero que hice fue cerciorarme de la hora y de los horarios de cada show o atracción porque no quería perderme de nada. Claro, que al final no pude experimentar algunas cosas porque el tiempo fue muy poco para todas las actividades que ofrecen.

WILD LIFE IN THE GROUSE MOUNTAIN
Now, let's get down to business!
As in any wooded area, there is beautiful wildlife in Grouse, and care must be taken not to disturb their habitat. Some of them are friendly little animals like the ones below. Others are wilder but really spectacular.

While strolling in a scenic chair, I noticed a deer tasting a tasty dish of plants and flowers.
I saw these cute little squirrels almost everywhere I went in Vancouver. They are very friendly and approach people without fear to ask for food and water.
Mientras paseaba en una silla escénica, me di cuenta de que un venado estaba degustando un sabroso platillo de plantas y flores.
Estas lindas ardillitas las vi en casi todos los lugares que visité en Vancouver. Son muy amigables y se acercan a las personas sin temor para pedir comida y agua.
BIRDS IN MOTION
Birds in motion is one of the most beautiful attractions at Grouse. I had never seen birds trained, let alone with falconry technique.
In this show, they explained how some birds of prey fly and chase their prey in a
strategic and deadly dance. An eagle, a vulture and an owl impressed me with their obedience. They each flew from place to place according to their trainer's orders to perform a demonstration of their chasing and hunting style by doing all sorts of
pirouettes in the air, and then returned to claim their prize.
While I'm one of those who would prefer not to see animals locked up, these birds are
not and could leave whenever they wanted to.
AVES EN MOVIMIENTO
Aves en movimiento es una de las más bonitas atracciones que hay en Grouse. Nunca había visto aves entrenadas y mucho menos con la técnica de cetrería. En esta atracción explicaron la forma en que algunas aves rapaces vuelan y persiguen a sus presas en una danza estratégica y mortal. Un águila, un buitre y un búho me impresionaron por su obediencia. Cada uno de ellos voló de un sitio a otro de acuerdo con las órdenes de su entrenador para realizar una demostración de su estilo de persecución y caza haciendo todo tipo de piruetas en el aire y luego regresaron para reclamar su premio.
Si bien soy de los que preferiría no ver animales encerrados, estas aves no lo están y podrían irse cuando quieran.

GRIZZLY BEAR HABITAT
I think I mentioned in one of the previous posts that one of the things I was most looking forward to seeing in Vancouver was a bear and Grouse Mountain gave me the opportunity to do so. The crown prize is that here they have a refuge for two grizzly bears and that got me so excited that I ran to see it. When I got to the site I realized that I was not the only one who wanted to see the bears because there were so many people that I could not see anything, so I went first to the Birds in Motion show to see if the influx of people would go down after a while and the truth is that it did not, so I had to wait a bit to be able to settle in front of the perimeter fence that protects the bears and the people. 🤣
HÁBITAT DEL OSO GRIZZLY
Creo que lo comenté en uno de los posts anteriores y es que una de las cosas que más anhelaba ver en Vancouver era un oso y la Montaña Grouse me dio la oportunidad de hacerlo. El premio de la corona es que aquí tienen un refugio para dos osos grizzly y eso me emocionó tanto que fui corriendo a verlo. Cuando llegué al sitio me di cuenta de que no era el único que deseaba ver los osos porque había tanta gente que no podía ver nada, así que fui primero al show de las Aves en Movimiento para ver si al rato bajaba la afluencia de personas y la verdad es que no fue así, de modo que tuve que esperar un poco para poder acomodarme frente a la cerca perimetral que protege a los osos y a las personas. 🤣
The grizzly bear is a brown bear and seeing it in captivity is intimidating. The two at Grouse were rescued and have been there since they were very young. Their names are Coola and Grinder. Despite what one might think, the grizzly is an omnivorous animal where 90% of its diet is based on vegetables and fruits. Only 10% of their diet is meat, but don't worry, humans are not on their menu. Unfortunately, fatal accidents have occurred by mere coincidence and most of them are due to the fact that bears are very protective of their cubs.
El oso gris o grizzly es un oso pardo y verlo en cautiverio no deja de ser intimidante. Los dos que hay en Grouse fueron rescatados y han estado allí desde muy pequeñitos. Sus nombres son Coola y Grinder. A pesar de lo que se pueda pensar, el grizzly es un animal omnívoro donde el 90% de su alimentación está basada en vegetales y frutas. Solo un 10% representa su dieta en carne, pero no te preocupes, los humanos no estamos dentro de su menú. Lamentablemente los accidentes fatales han ocurrido por mera coincidencia y la mayoría debido a que las osas son muy protectoras de sus crías.

seen happily enjoying his bath.
No sé si era Grinder o Coola el oso que sin importar quién lo estaba viendo se dedicó a hacer lo suyo. Por un rato estuvo husmeando un tronco, pero fue el agua lo que al final lo sedujo. Allí hurgó hasta sacar unas plantas o raíces y se le vio feliz disfrutando su baño o a lo mejor acicalándose para su pareja.
