I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I am a little better. I'm still struggling to find motivation, but I realised that I haven't continued my From All Over Türkiye series for a very long time. So today we will visit the Çanakkale Troy Museum together.

Although not as much as Göbeklitepe, we will reach a little further into the past with you. The ancient city known as Troy existed from 3000 BC to 950 BC. Forgive me, you will be exposed to some historical information because I can't stop the nerd in me.

I just want to talk to you more about what kind of things I encountered physically before the historical crap.

Of course, the building does not look that big from a distance. In fact, it seemed absurd that the museum of a city like Troy, which has a rich history with a 7 layer history, was so small. As we got closer, the building got bigger and bigger.

Although vehicles can enter, there is a little walking path to the entrance of the building. I couldn't focus too much with the tiredness of the previous days. I woke up in the early hours of the morning, did my make-up and set off before having breakfast. So it's hard, you know.

It is very easy to say that it smells of history. I learnt that the main thing is to show this history in detail with this museum. Yes, every museum tells you about the time of people stuck between certain numbers, but I have never seen a museum that tells it like watching a movie, second by second. And I say this as someone who has visited a large part of Türkiye and a few other countries.

The first floor of the museum was quite dark. After the little problem we had at the entrance, someone said "I think they are sending us to Hades", which I thought was a great saying. We were going down to 7 floors of history, if not 7 floors of the ground...

What you see in the photo above is the Tomb of Polyxena. This sarcophagus has two features. The first is that it is the oldest known sarcophagus. The second is that the reliefs on it tell the story of Polyxena, the daughter of Priamos, the king of Troy, who was sacrificed to the soul of Achilles after the Trojan War. The name comes from this woman who was thought to be beautiful.

Our head guide told us that the name of this sarcophagus might appear in our exam. And it did. Fortunately, I took a note in my hand 😂

An example of the common horsemen plaques found in the sanctuaries of the early Hellenistic period. You know, the Hellenistic Period. Of course, trying not to show my nerdiness again, I leave the link here to explain what the Hellenistic Period is.

I can also add that Alexander the Great had a great influence. The head guide told us that the cavalryman portrayed on these terracotta plaques was Dardanos, the ancestor of the Trojans. I don't know why he emphasised on this plaque. Maybe because it is one of the best examples. I have seen a sarcophagus that did not remain so intact...

Now I would like to show you a piece that I believe to be very valuable: a Luwian seal, the first written document of the Late Bronze Age in the ancient city of Troy. It is said that this seal belonged to a scribe. I think it seems to be the most logical explanation.

Because it is a very small seal and the darkness combined with the bad camera of my phone, it was not very clear, but unfortunately this was the best I could do.

Altıkulaç sarcophagus looks pretty cool with this lighting, doesn't it? This sarcophagus with hunting scenes on it dates back to the same period when the famous Lycian sarcophagi were made. When I look at it not as a historian but as a tourism specialist, the first thing I see in this sarcophagus is robbery. Because I feel that there can be no other explanation for such a large and elaborate hole.

After we finished this large and detailed museum on two floors, we set off to see the ancient city of Troy with our own eyes. It was quite fun.

I was both very happy and sad that they put narration plaques on all the trees and plants because our teacher said that if he asked a question, there was no escape. Fortunately, he did not ask this question, but he asked the name of a bird we saw in that ancient city, whose name I cannot remember now.

They're showing each of the previously inhabited floors. Frankly, it's very impressive. It's very impressive to me that so many different nations have come and lived in almost the same spots for centuries, and now we do too.

I wish I had more time here so that I could explore it to the fullest. Çanakkale holds a special place in my heart, let alone Troy. You can even catapult me to Çanakkale.

On this plaque, the plant and animal species that we could see in the region were written. But this was not the bird that the head guide saw and it was not a good season for this bird when we were there. (January)

It is very nice to see that many buildings are almost completely standing. I only wish I could visit more places in the ancient city. Maybe the reason for this is that there are still ongoing excavations in some areas. I hope this will be realised in the future.

Yes, I think that's it for today. I really enjoyed visiting and learning about Troy, not only because of the quality of the people I went with but also because of the quality of the museum. I remember feeling that I learnt more and more about time and this is still the case.

Umarım iyisinizdir ya da iyi olmaya çalışıyorsunuzdur. Ben biraz daha iyiyim. Kendimde hâlâ motivasyon bulmakta zorlanıyorum ama çok uzun bir süredir Türkiye'nin Dört Bir Yanından serime devam etmediğimi fark ettim. Bu yüzden bugün sizinle Çanakkale Troya Müzesi'ni ziyaret edeceğiz.

Göbeklitepe kadar olmasa da sizinle biraz eskilere uzanacağız. Troya olarak bilinen antik kent MÖ 3000 yılından MÖ 950 yılına kadar varlığını sürdürmüş. Kusuruma bakmayın içimdeki ineği durduramadığım için biraz tarihi bilgilere maruz kalacaksınız.

Sadece tarihi zırvalardan önce sizinle daha çok fiziksel olarak nasıl şeylerle karşılaştığımdan bahsetmek istiyorum.

Uzaktan bina o kadar da büyük görünmüyor elbette. Hatta Troya gibi geçmişi zengin, 7 katlı tarihe sahip olan bir şehrin müzesinin bu kadar küçük olması saçma gelmişti. Yaklaştıkça bina büyüdü de büyüdü.

Her ne kadar araçlar içeri girse de binanın girişine biraz yürüme yolu bulunuyor. Önceki günlerin yorgunluğu ile çok fazla odaklanamadım. Sabahın ilk saatlerinde uyanıp makyajımı yapmış olup daha kahvaltı yapmadan yola koyulmuştum. Zor yani anlayacağınız.

Buram buram tarih koktuğunu söylemek çok kolay. Asıl olayın bu tarihi detaylı bir şekilde gösterebilmek olduğunu ben bu müze ile öğrendim. Evet, her müze size belirli sayılar arasında sıkışmış insanların zamanını anlatıyor fakat sanki saniyesi saniyesine, film izlermiş gibi anlatanını daha önce görmemiştim. Ki Türkiye'nin büyük bir bölümünü ve birkaç ülkeyi de ziyaret etmiş biri olarak bunu söylüyorum.

Müzenin ilk katı oldukça karanlıktı. Girişte yaşadığımız minik sorundan sonra "Bizi sanırım Hades'in yanına gönderiyorlar." diyen oldu ki bence harika bir sözdü. Yerin 7 katı olmasa da tarihin 7 katına iniyorduk...

Yukarıdaki fotoğrafta gördüğünüz Polyxena Lahdi. Bu lahidin iki özelliği varmış. Birincisi bilinen en eski lahit olması. İkincisi ise üzerindeki kabartmaların Truva Savaşı'ndan sonra Akhilleus'un ruhuna kurban edilen Troya kralı Priamos'un kızı Polyxena'nın hikâyesini anlatmasıymış. İsmi de zaten bu güzel olduğu düşünülen kadından geliyor.

Baş rehberimiz bu lahtin isminin sınavımızda çıkabileceğini söyledi. Çıktı da. Neyse ki elime not almıştım 😂

Erken Helenistik Dönem kutsal alanlarında sıkça rastlanan atlı adam plaketlerinden bir örnek. Malum Helenistik Dönem. Tabii ben yine inekliğimi belli etmemeye çalışarak Helenistik Dönemi'n ne olduğunu açıklayacak linki buraya bırakıyorum.

Bir de Büyük İskender'in oldukça etkisi olduğunu ekleyebilirim. Pişmiş topraktan yapılan bu plaketlerde canlandırılan süvarinin, Troialıların atası, Dardanos olduğunu söyledi baş rehber bize. Nedendir bilemem bu plaketin üzerinde oldukça durdu. Belki de en iyi örneklerden birisi olduğu içindir. Bu kadar sağlam kalamamış lahit gördüm...

Şimdi size çok değerli olduğuna inandığım bir parça göstermek istiyorum. Troya Antik Kenti'nde Son Tunç Çağı'na ait ilk yazılı belgesi olan Luvice mühür. Bu mührün bir katibe ait olduğu söyleniyormuş. Bence de olabilecek en mantıklı açıklama gibi görünüyor.

Çok küçük bir mühür olduğu ve karanlık ile birlikte telefonumun da kötü kamerası birleşince çok da anlaşılmaz bir görüntü ortaya çıktı fakat ne yazık ki yapabildiğimin en iyisi buydu.

Altıkulaç Lahdi bu ışıklandırma ile oldukça havalı duruyor değil mi? Üzerinde av sahnelerini bulunan bu lahit meşhur Likya lahitlerinin yapıldığı aynı döneme tarihleniyormuş. Bir tarihçi olarak değil de bir turizmci olarak baktığımda bu lahitte ilk gördüğüm şey soygun. Çünkü böyle büyük ve özenli bir deliğin başka bir açıklaması olamazmış gibi geliyor.

İki katlı bu büyük ve detaylı müzeyi bitirdikten sonra hemen dışarıda ola Troya Antik Kenti'ni kendi gözlerimizle görebilmek için yola koyulduk. Oldukça eğlenceliydi.

Bütün ağaç ve bitkilere anlatım plaketleri koydukları için hem çok mutlu oldum hem de üzüldüm çünkü hocamız eğer soru sorarsa artık bir kaçışımızın olmadığını söyledi. Neyse ki bunu sormadı fakat şimdilerde adını hatırlayamadığım o antik kentte gördüğümüz bir kuşun adını sordu.

Daha önce yaşam bulunan katların her birini gösteriyorlar. Açıkçası bu çok etkileyici. Bu kadar farklı milletlerin gelip hemen hemen aynı noktalarda yüzyıllarca hayatlarını sürdürmüş olmaları ve şimdi de bizim sürdürüyor oluşumuz oldukça etkileyici benim için.

Keşke burada daha fazla zamanım olsaydı da doya doya inceleyebilseydim. Çanakkale ilinin bende yeri ayrıdır ki bırakın Troya'yı. Beni Çanakkale'ye mancınıkla bile atabilirsiniz.

Bu plakette de bölgede görebileceğimiz bitki ve hayvan türleri yazıyordu. Fakat baş rehberimizin gördüğü kuş bu değildi ki bu kuş için iyi bir mevsim de değilmiş biz gittiğimizde. (Ocak)

Çok fazla yapının hemen hemen tamamen ayakta kaldığını görebilmek çok güzel. Sadece antik kent içerisinde daha fazla yer gezebilmek isterdim. Belki de bunun sebebi bazı bölgelerde hâlâ kazı çalışmalarına devam edilmesidir. Umarım ilerleyen zamanda bu gerçekleşir.

Evet, sanırım benden bugünlük bu kadar. Troya'yı gezerken ve öğrenirken oldukça zevk aldım. Tabii bu sadece birlikte gittiğim insanların kalitesi değil aynı zamanda müzenin de kalitesiydi. Zamanla ilgili daha öok şey öğrendiğimi hissettiğimi hatırlıyorum ki bu durum hâlâ da böyle.

Size son 2 kitap önerimle veda etmek istiyorum. Bu iki kitap da bizim geçmişizle ilgili ve çok değerli bir tarihçinin de önerisi.
