Day 1216: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: black widow

Narcissus-Caravaggio (1594-96) edited

Most of us have worked with someone that seemed to consume all the oxygen in any room. Their sense of superiority and entitlement was hard to ignore.

More than not, they are very outgoing and charming, however, they can sometimes be the introverted version with hyper-sensitivities to others.

Narcissists can be especially sneaky, launching elaborate smear campaigns against those they 'perceive' as threatening. This is because they have very large egos that need constant validation.

There is nothing pretty or pleasant about working with a narcissist or having one in your family. They can be like cunning black widow spiders draining the life-force out you and in some extreme cases destroying the lives of those they interact with.

It's estimated the 11% of the population fall into this personality group, however, since one of the most distinctive characteristics of this dangerous personality is lack of empathy or responsibility, it is likely that number is higher.
Typically people with the disorder end of the spectrum (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) tend to not seek treatment despite the chaos and drama that plagues their lives.

Instead, treatment usually involves 'no contact' and is centered around helping those in their lives rather than the narcissist.
