A year and a half ago, my husband and I embarked on buying a new home. We had lived in our house for 20 years and were finding ourselves consumed quickly by a major population boom. That's what happens when your town hits the best small town list in America. People flock to it!
It was an exciting prospect until we quickly found out that our local water sources were heavily contaminated with PFAS...namely GenX. The problem was so widespread and serious that it caught the attention of Erin Brockovich. That's pretty bad!
Investigations commenced and it was discovered that Chemours/DuPont held direct responsibility for contaminating an important, major water tributary.
Another concerning reality was that private water corporations were descending on our state like others in a similar situation, buying up public water utilities and drilling thousands of wells throughout the area to siphon water. With this, people were finding their wells going dry and were forced to participate in this privatization of drinking water.
Why are the chemical companies directly responsible not given the bill to clean up the water supply and build new water facilities to accommodate the extra filtration methods needed?
Never underestimate the value of 'clean water'.
