They were hanging out on the front porch, as they always did evenings after dinner. A cup of tea in each right hand, synchronized sips that both of them noticed but neither talked about, watching whatever went by on wheels, feet or wings.
It was easy back then, after dinner times. Nowadays, we have to catch up on paperwork, or calls, or texts, or battery changes, or whatnot, after dinner, because there is not enough time in the work day to do it all. "Work day" has become meaningless. All the day long is work work work.
Is it just me, or do we all have less time to enjoy ourselves? I can't imagine going to the movie theater now. I don't have a two hour block of time to just sit and watch a movie. I watch movies at home, where I can continue to water my plants, dust my house (rare), write checks, lick envelopes, recycle paper. All that mindless crap we have to do now so that our worlds continue to turn.
This started out as a story with some promise, but veered back into all about me. But what can I do? Time's up!!!
This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is G-rated.
