Fledgling: Part 2

Greetings Readers!

It has been a very strange week. I started working on humanising projects and wow...AI-written orders need a lot of work trying to make them sound like they were written by a person.

Anyway, Halloween and my birthday are coming up soo, and with work being a little slow, I am going to take my time working on my projects and gaming a little. Maybe Fledgling can grow a little more!

Anyway, here is today's update!

He turned and saw a massive wolf-like creature padding next to him. The white fur was dulled with splashes of what he believed to be blood.

“Urgh, an alarm woke me.”

“An alarm?” The wolf stood up. “Why would you set an alarm?”

He shrugged and walked into the training area with the large wolf following him.
“Looking for a training partner?”

“Not today. Today, I just want to work on my form.”

“Then I will watch.”

“Why?”

“You know why.”

The man yawned, shrugged, and bade the creature do as he wished. His muscles were unused to movement but remembered it. It had been drilled into him since he was a toddler, and now, as a grown man, it was hard to forget. The wolf lay down and watched him for hours. He found those blue eyes unnerving but was also used to them. This creature had always been around for as long as he had come to this place. They had grown up together.

Rubor was his oldest and only friendly, through no fault of his own. The woman who had raised him had been so secretive, that he hadn’t met another person until he was in his teens. He had always hated her for that. That, and her abandoning him soon after that. He didn’t even want to think about the male contributor to his being.

“The training equipment isn’t what you’re angry at.” Said Rubor.

He hissed through his teeth and took a deep breath before slowly releasing it. He had hoped the sleep would allow him to curb his anger, but it hadn’t.

“When was the last time you were awake? A decade? More? Let’s go eat.”

He considered the suggestion for a few minutes before he nodded his head. It had been at least a decade since he was last awake. He was losing track. He didn’t even know how old he was at this point, a downside of immortality.”

“Yeah, let’s eat. You can pick the place.”

“Ha! You may regret that choice.”

“Why? I get paid to stay here and not cause problems. I never have to pick up any tabs I create.”

The wolf got to his feet and grinned, “Well, in that case, you can foot the bill.”

“What else is new? You can take us.”

The Rubar grinned and ran his talons through the air, parting what appeared to be a portal. He then inclined his head, allowing the man to step through the portal before following him. They were soon surrounded by a multitude of people thronging around them. They were in a food court of some sort.
Rubar picked a restaurant that didn’t mind having his kind on the premises. Despite this, he still got dirty looks when he started eating his very rare steak with his bare hands. His claws and teeth made short work of the meal before him, his companion barely touched the fried chips and hamburger on his plate. Instead, he seemed to be picking over the various components of the side salad.

“Fledge, what has gotten into you?” Asked Rubar.

“I shouldn’t be awake.” He muttered.

Rubar looked around and noted the number of people who were staring at his companion. Fledge didn’t look like a lot of creatures around them, but he wasn’t that odd. If anything, he very much looked human. Rubar commented on his smell after training and that he should have had a shower before coming out.

Fledge knew better. People knew what it meant if he was a wake, and they were waiting to see what he would do. He loved the attention once before, but now it had gotten old, and he just wanted to be left alone.

“You gonna eat your food or just stare at it?’ asked Rubar.

“Have at it.” Fledge leaned back in his chair, drinking from a straw as Rubar dug his clawed hands into the plate with his food.

Instead of watching the Wolven destroy its second meal, Fledge took the time to stare at the people around him. When he made eye contact with them, they hurriedly looked away, cringing. Once no one was looking at him, he turned his attention to those walking around the area.

Like the time corridors, this place was a stop for those who wished to travel time with the correct permits. Few were exempt from these permits, but not all. Fledge, for example, could travel where he wanted, and if he so needed, he could take Rubar with him to travel dimensions within the time he visited. There was only one time that was off limits to Fledge, and that was his own time.

Traveling within one’s own time was strictly forbidden unless authorized by the Heavenly. Fledge rolled his eyes when he noted a few of the gaudy figures milling around. It had been some time since one had approached him, but once these noticed him, they all inclined their heads to him, and he did likewise. He didn’t like them, but he respected them.

His eyes wandered through the crowds until they settled on a Heavenly, one he hadn’t seen in some time. Leaning his chair so that it was tipped on the back legs, he tried to see who was walking with him. His entire body went cold when he noticed the woman standing next to the Heavenly. He had believed her long gone, disappearing in time, yet here she was. Her dusky grey hair was tied back, with the sides of her head shaved. A single grey eye was looking around her in wonderment, while the other side of her face was marred with a thick, red scar.

That was all Fledge could see before he leaned too far back, and his chair collapsed out from under him. He fell hard, knocking the wind from his lungs. Rubar stood and leaned over the table.
