Fell Dragon Book 7 Part 3

Greeting All

As soon as I went through the update I was going to make, I realised that I couldn't do an Introductory chapter for the mystery man, it would ruin the surprise. I did however leave a clue at the bottom and will do the extra chapter tomorrow.

I hope you all enjoy it! I have been sitting this character coming back for probably a year now.

Saita didn’t answer. Doran watched the colour drain from her face as if she had seen a ghost. The Saith, noticing the two of them had stopped advancing, turned to view them with intense, dark eyes. Saita’s head quickly spun around her, what she was looking for, Doran wasn’t sure, but she appeared almost frantic.

“You must be the one they call Saita here.” Said the man.

The Saith were a people that used colour to represent ranks, accomplishments, and general standing in the community. Doran was led to believe that this was because of the slavery they underwent with the Kai thousands of years ago. He had come to know some of the colours and what they meant. This man wore black pants, a set of combat boots, and a white shirt with blue sleeves. Doran had seen a similar uniform before. It was the same uniform that Bahn, Lardan’s son wore, yet this wasn’t Bahn, but there was a resemblance.

Saita held a hand out before Doran and she said softly, “He should not be here, it’s impossible for him to be here.”

“What do you mean? Is that someone you know or not?”

“It’s clear you know who I am.” Said the man as he stepped forward.

With his second ability, Doran was able to feel the immense power this man wielded and knew that if he had come for a fight, both Saita and he would be in for a difficult time.

“You shouldn’t be here.” Said Saita addressing the Saith for the first time.

“I heard you the first time and I’m well aware.

Something caught Doran’s attention as the man stepped forward. He wore what appeared to be bracers along his forearms. He found this strange, as few Saith bothered with armour that wasn’t covered in a dyed material. Seeing metal on a Saith was unnerving as if watching someone with a knife stepping closer. Everything about this man felt wrong and it took Doran a few seconds to figure out why he felt so strange.

This Saith wasn’t from this time.

“You must explain to me what happened! Why am I here?”

The Saith continued to step closer and closer, but Saita refused to step back. She had already taken in her surroundings and knew an all-out fight here would risk not only structures but lives. Doran thought to step before the young human, but instead, she stepped in front of him and tried to talk to the Saith.

“Captain, I don’t know what to tell you.” She said clearly.

Captain?

Doran looked at the armour again and realised that Saita was correct. This was the uniform of the Captain of the Royal Guard. Yet, Doran knew both captains, and this wasn’t one of them. The man was also old, likely passed his prime in fighting, not that that mattered with Saith.

Just when Doran was sure a fight was to break out, Bolx and Aidan made an appearance at the other side of the street they all accompanied. While Saita had been calm with only her and Doran’s life in possible danger, seeing her son in possible harm’s way caused an instant change in her demeanour. The Saith picked up on it and looked behind him. That was all Saita needed.

While Saita had the power to fight most Saith to a standstill, this one was different. He instantly snapped his attention back to the human just as she started moving. Before Doran or Bolx could shout some sort of warning, the Saith had already readied himself. Saita didn’t see the blow that forced her back into the low garden wall in front of her home. The back of her legs hit the wall and she flipped upside down to land face-first in the dirt and grass beyond. With the wind knocked out of her, she couldn’t get up fast enough to react to the weight that pinned both her hands in the centre of her back while a hand kept her head down.

“I didn’t come for a fight.” Said the Saith as he knelt on Saita’s back.

He looked at the astonished faces of Doran, Aidan, and Bolx and couldn’t help but grin. It was rare that people were still surprised by the violence that he could show. He looked down at the human he had pinned below him. With both hands pinned in her lower back with his one knee and her head firmly pressed into the dirt, it was highly unlikely that she would be a threat. Yet, he had heard stories of her before and knew not to underestimate her. The briar rose-like tendrils that poked up from the edge of her shirt confirmed that she was the one he was looking for. However, he knew that he had shown his hand too early because not only had she recognized him but so had the Saith with the young child at his side.

The old Saith looked up and viewed the child. He wasn’t Saith and looked like the woman trapped below him. Yet, he didn’t recognize him, but the look on the boy’s face led the Saith to believe that he too knew who he was. Growling under his breath he knew it was only a matter of time before others would be arriving soon. He was no Truth Seeker, he never had been and never was able to figure out a way to combat it.

Was he willing to finally let everyone see him? Especially the queen? He had been following her for weeks, not sure how to broach the subject of how he got here. He had done all the intel. He knew that the one below him once had the ability to travel through time, but that power was gone now. However, he had hoped that she could answer his questions. He had hoped to come to her alone, but he had somehow stumbled into something bigger and knew he could no longer hide.

“I’m going to get up.” He said softly. “I am not going to attack you as long as you don’t attack me again, understand?”

He heard a mumbled response below him, and he slowly got to his feet. Saita’s head shot up from the dirt as she took a deep breath and coughed a few times. She remained lying down, hoping her head would stop spinning, until Aidan tentatively approached his mother to help her to her feet.

The human boy helped his mother to sit on the garden wall, fearing she had a concussion, but couldn’t tear his eyes from the Saith that continued to stand looking down at him. He knew this man, he had seen photos of him, but he also knew he was dead.

The Saith looked up at Bolx and said, “Bolx, go get Lardan. It’ll be easier to talk to him first.”

Bolx was startled and immediately teleported from the scene. The Saith then turned to the other human and said, “I believe you are called Doran. Let’s go inside.”

Doran didn’t move at first. It wasn’t the first time he had seen the move that had put Saita in the dirt. It was a move Saasha often used on her. A move Saita was starting to see though. The only reason that she hadn’t seen it coming from the Saith was that he was left-handed and had different cues than the right-handed Saasha.

The human stepped forward and helped Saita to her feet before making his way into her home. Saita didn’t fight him, as she was trying to stem a bleeding cut under her right eye. Aidan kept close to his mother until they were in the home. Once he was inside, he immediately went to fetch the first aid kit.

Doran seated Saita on a stool in the kitchen and looked over the wound. It clearly hurt, but Saita was conscious, albeit barely. While Doran and Aidan attended to Saita, the broad-shouldered Saith sat down in the lounge and looked toward the front door. There were butterflies in his stomach. He wondered if Bolx would bring only Lardan or if he’d bring the queen too. To have the chance to speak to her again made him nervous, and he didn’t know if his heart could bear it. He didn’t have long to wait.

The queen was the first to make her way into the house. She moved with purpose and paused at where the kitchen and the lounge started. The look on her face was unreadable at first. She seemed to be taking in the vision before her as if she couldn’t believe who was before her. The Saith said nothing but got to his feet.

Saasha immediately looked at his wrists and noted the manacles that were there. He had never bothered to have them removed after everything that had happened. It was too painful, even after all the decades that had passed. He knew she knew who he was, but it wasn’t a look of happiness or even shock on her face, it was a look of disgust.

Saasha turned from him and stepped from the house, not saying a single word, much to the shock of the Saith. He had thought she would be happy to see him, yet there was contempt in the single eye that stared daggers at him as she left. He was confused. He had thought after coming here that he would be able to be with his family again, but now not only was he scorned by the love of his life, but it appeared as if she couldn’t even stomach being in the same room as him.

Just as he was about to go after her, another stepped into the room. He recognised the man, and he felt his heart explode with pride as he recognized the colours of the General of the Royal Guard upon his form. He had grown to be an exceptional soldier it would seem.

“Dad?” came the quivering voice of his only son.

Keep an eye out for the big reveal at some point over the weekend!
