When Sola became the new manager at "Delac's Fish farm, his lack of expertise quickly showed. He did not have the practical skills on how to manage a farm of that size. He went ahead to implement cost effective strategies without heeding the advice of seasoned employees who advised against reducing the feed quality and changing water quality practices. Sola was optimistic that his' would cut costs and yield more profits.

Armed with a first class degree in Fishery Management, he felt he had all it takes to make the farm thrive. At first everything went well but soon enough, calamity struck!

The workers reported the presence of dead fishes floating in the ponds, a few at first but this later increased to uncomfortable levels. The deaths were attributed to the poor quality of water and the lack of sufficient oxygen. Manager Sola had overlooked some basic farming practices and this caused massive deaths in the ponds.

The losses were staggering that the Director had no choice than to fire Sola.
He learnt an important lesson — that running a successful fishery is not only about acquiring a degree but also about acquiring practical skills which would be an immense advantage in managing the complex nature of fish farming and how the overall wellbeing of the ecosystem makes a farm successful.
