The farm crops glitters and radiates like the sun. Anne was filled with joy. At least her diligence and hardwork are gradually paying off. The improved variety she got from the research station has proved to be a master stroke. Where others failed, she has succeeded.
Anne's farm became a centre of attraction. It became a demonstration farm and the owner a consultant. She relished the moment and was willing to share her experiences with other farmers.
But alas, the monsoon rains came. The farm is on a plain field. The rains fell for days without ceasing. Anne's flourishing plants began to be submerged. Anne was gutted. She couldn't help the situation. Her beautiful farm was being systematically destroyed by the rains. She could not salvage the ugly and unwanted situation.
With seven days of intensive rainfall all was gone! Anne became sober. Other farmers came to console her but she could not be consoled. She blamed it all on a failed government that has consistently and unapologetically reneged in its responsibilities.
The government had promised to construct a tunnel to channel monsoon rains into the canal but has severally failed to make good this said promise. Now poor Anne has been affected by it all. She was also left to bear her losses alone.
