At long last we return to one of my favorite characters, Ruth Addler! She rose to prominence as a favorite of mine in the early issues as being kind of the bridge between Margaret and Hazel's personalities. Like Margaret, she immediately saw through Mookie's bullshit, but like Hazel, decided he was an all right guy. I enjoy her as a character that is cynical like Mookie, but more nuanced. She's braver than him, sad like him, and in general is just trying to get by in a word not willing to help her succeed.
I remember how her character really came to life for me when I saw Theresa's illustrations of her scrapping with the cultists while Mookie scrambled to worry over his camera.
It was hard for me to have her take the back seat through issues 4 and 5, especially issue 5. I spent over a year on issue 4 as many of you know, and I missed my characters like one would miss their friends. I was able to catch up with Mookie, Margaret, and Hazel immediately, but Ruth is a responsible adult who can't just go galavanting at all hours of the night. She needs to sleep so she can go to her real and very demanding job as a nurse in the morning.
So yeah, I'm glad to see her again, it's been far too long.
