The Value of Sheer Will

Sometimes, getting so battered by relentless attacks and captures pushes your mind forward and forces a victory. This has been the case here, where hope has almost been gone, until a way out was found simply through the sheer will to win. Reminds me of the fact that it is not necessarily the number of pieces you have left that determines victory.

It reminds me of another instance, on Jersey Island in 1997, when I was playing pool with a group of co-students from various countries. I was losing hard to the German and Vietnamese players, and they, along with the audience, were starting to laugh at me and mock me, with the Vietnamese even calling me "stupid." This caused an upswell of pure rage inside of me, and it pushed me to land winning scores with each succeeding move. They were speechless after that and I started gaining their respect. I raised my flag proudly without saying a single word. The sheer will to win is indeed a game changer. What a way to feel Alive!
