Sand globe art is a relatively new global phenomena I started making them a few years ago and enjoy placing them in the landscape.
As a form of ephemeral art sand globes can vanish with the next wave or tide or merely the passage of time.
Each sand globe takes a few minutes to make starting with a ball of wet sand and then adding layers of drier sand while shaping into a sphere. It's both calming and energising to be standing with bare feet while creating with the hands and whole-body movements.
Morning or afternoon longer shadows can produce some striking images.
Sand globes can be given a personality or just sit calmly.
Building sand globe sculptures requires balance and patience. Sand on a riverside beach often has a little clay content which gives it some strength and durability.
Sand globe sculptures need a calm day. A breeze can easily collapse a tower.
This isn’t a record for sand globe towers although I was happy with it. Lower sand globes tend to collapse from the weight above. It's prudent to take pictures while building in case the next level is the last.
I recently learned how to create a hole using a small twig and a lot of care. Flying a helicopter through the hole takes even greater care 😄
Yesterday I discovered how to make a sand 'teardrop'. I’m now wondering what other shapes can be created. Any ideas?
