Good Drainage Counters Flood

My entry to #Wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay the observation of the Ikate Area of Lekki Phase one. It is not news nor a new thing that this particular part of Lagos is always disturbed by flood whenever there is just a drop of rain. This is because the area is an Island surrounded by both the Lagos and the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the land seen in Lekki according to findings is sand filled, because under normal circumstances should be part of the Lagood and should be a swamp.

Rain is a blessing for farmers and either we like it or not its season must definitely come. People in this part of the world are always scared of the raining season because of flood. In fact they sleep with their eyes open whenever it begin drizzling because they can wake up in the flood over the night.

One thing I have observed is that not every part of this City gets flooded. Even with a very downpour this Ikate axis might just be a little flooded but as soon as the rain stops everywhere dries up unlike some places like ILLASAN and Kusela. My attention was drawn to the drainage system in this Ikate axis. What I observed is that the drainage is big and free from dirts. These photographs was taken just about five minutes after a heavy downpour. There is a lot of role a good and large drainage system play. It definetely prevent unnecessary flooding in an area that should normally be flooded. My next #Wednesdaywalk will be to ILLASAN and a continuation of why a good drainage prevents flooding
