Hello Hivers! How's your Christmas? I hope you are having a warm and happy Christmas with your family. Today I want to take you guys for a walk in my small village.
I was born and raised on a sandy and sunny land in Quang Nam province, Vietnam. It is a poor land, but affection and will are always rich. Yes, it's not a touristy land with beautiful landscape paintings, but it's a place that I am very proud of and very dear to.
From the day I got married, I didn't have much time left to go back and see the changes in the place where I was born. Although I usually take my children home to visit my father every weekend, I almost always spend that moment staying at home with my grandmother, not going anywhere.
But today was different,
Now that it is the rainy season, my father does not accept any more construction. Instead, he spends his time tending to his garden. Today he planted some new vegetables in his garden. That's why I had the opportunity to take my children to walk to my father's garden to watch him work.
This garden is about 500m from my parents' house. That is the land where my family used to live. I was born there and attached to this land for the first 11 years of my life. It's been a long time since I've been back here, and the feeling is indescribable. That land contains a lot of childhood memories, a place where I always cherish and keep a lot of love.
The road to get there is also very different now. When I was a youngster, this land was just empty countryside with a few homes. But now, the two sides of the road have sprouted many houses.
And here is the entrance to my old house when I was a kid. Now the trees have grown luxuriantly. My kids seem to enjoy this walk. They were excited and had fun running around.
Go past that tree-lined road and come to my father's garden.
In front of me is a whole sky of memories. This harsh land has deeply imprinted the footprints of my parents, both sweat and tears. I still vividly remember their fatigued images. On rainy days, on sunny days, they still try to work on this land to earn money to feed their children. Now, those hard times are over, but they will always be a part of my memory that I will always be grateful for and cherish.
Now my father works on this land with joy, and he no longer feels tired of the pressures of life because his children have grown up. We have our own professions and life. So my father no longer has to worry about anybody.
And this is the jungle of cashew trees where I used to accompany my grandmother as a youngster to pick nuts to sell. I still remember the summer afternoons I used to bring books here, choose a beautiful tree and climb there to read the book. The sound of birds singing, the breeze playing, the fresh scent of trees, that atmosphere always makes me feel comfortable and excited.
After meeting my father, I stopped by my aunt's house. I haven't seen her in a long time. When my children and I arrived, we saw her harvesting vegetables to sell.
One year ago, this woman was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. With the severity of the disease, everyone thought that she would not make it through. But fortunately, the evil disease did not defeat her. When I went to see her in the hospital, I saw her hair was shaven, and she was so thin, but her face was always bright with a smile, and her mood was always happy and optimistic. She told me that if fate forced her to leave early, why couldn't she live the rest of her days happily. Being sad and worried would not solve the problem.
And indeed, it was her optimism that healed her illness. Now, not only did she recover from her illness but also healthy and can do everything to continue to raise her youngest son to study.
Here is her garden. Very beautiful and peaceful. I feel happy and happy to see her as healthy and happy as she is now.
In her garden, I found a lot of interesting things. There are not only beds of fresh green vegetables, but also beautiful colors of flowers.
Not just my aunt, but the people here are like that; their lives are usually difficult, yet I have never seen them powerless in the face of adversity. Their life is still full of joy and happiness.
The white sands with the busy footprints of the people here under the sun and the rain are images that always exist in my childhood memories. Their feet brush in the sand just as they tread on difficulties and struggle to go up.
Today, my village is famous for being a traditional village of growing clean vegetables with the name "Hung My clean vegetable village", the people's products have been highly appreciated and valued in the regional market. It is thanks to their efforts, persistent will, and optimistic spirit. Their lives have greatly improved. I'm proud of where I was born and raised.
Today, taking my children for a walk in the gardens, I showed my children that a bunch of vegetables we eat is a hard work process. I want them to know how to appreciate the fruits of labor, and I want them to know that success is never easy. And only effort and will can help us overcome difficulties.
Maybe one day, one of the children here will turn this region into a true tourist destination. Travel to discover beautiful gardens, learn about the trials and tribulations of farming, and enjoy the results of your efforts. I'm envisioning it. Hmmm! It's also really intriguing! I'm not sure whether anyone likes this. πβΊοΈπ
It was an enjoyable and emotional walk for me, and I'm glad to share with you. Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
