Wake up and smell the flowers

It was a little naughty, unplanned also, but it happened and it was quite splendid.

This morning we slept in despite the plan being an early start for the day, some chores around the house before a walk in the gardens nearby and a bite of lunch surrounded by the lovely sights and smells of nature all around. Admittedly the sleep in wasn't outrageously long but by mid-morning we were only just finishing off the housework when we'd in fact planned to be out in the gardens walking by then.

Sometimes plans just don't go to plan despite our best intentions...the sleep in was worth it though.

It was a lovely day although quite cool in the shade. The sun shone brightly though and, more importantly, warmly as we wandered aimless through the gardens accompanied by light conversation which stopped sporadically because sometimes words are not needed.

Two hours later - no we didn't walk for that long, there were periods of sitting watching the world go by, or laying on the grass soaking in the warmth - we decided it was time for lunch and before long a vegetarian frittata was bought for me, and a ham and salad baguette for my man along with two coffees and a big bottle of water. We were all set for our picnic and found the perfect spot within a little grove of trees that allowed the sun to filter through just enough to touch my skin with a war caress; there, we ate, listened to the birds all around and breathed deeply of the clean fresh air that was in such abundance.

Sundays are lovely days for us as we are almost always together and very rarely are we under any real pressure to do much at all. We reserve the day for us, relaxation and rest and have a rule that we do not discuss things that could lead us into complicated conversations - A break from such things is needed.

It's important to reserve time for moments like this, to prioritise one's own wellbeing and that of our partners and relationship in general; waking up and taking time to smell the flowers, I mean to put an emphasis on one's own feelings and emotions in a bid to nurture them, is an important part of life, mine anyway. Today was all about that and it delivered exactly as intended.
