Although, the South-South Region of my country Nigeria is known for heavy rainfall that is one of the major factors and contributors to the predominant Mangrove Swamp forests especially here in the Niger Delta in contrast to the Northern part of the country where rainfall in very light and rare, not a single month goes by without some showers of rain.
How's it going over here?
Presently, we are in the rainy season and you know what happens during this season 🙃 rain, rain and more rain but the annoying thing about it is that it's refusing to take a little break even umbrellas provide very little or noassistance to the constantly heavy showers. Two days ago, precisely on Sunday, I had an engagement which made me travel to another state (Bayelsa State) from my state (Rivets State) and the rain almost ruined my trip. I was already at my destination or close to it when I thought that the rainfall was decreasing, as I was about to alight from the vehicle with my luggage, a very strong wind hit hard on my face which invited another round of heavy showers.
I was almost completely drenched in the rain because I had to shield my laptop as much as I could from the rain so it wouldn't get wet and have a malfunction.
I also had to shield my belongings: phone chargers, books, shoes in my travelling bag from the fierce showers.
Thank God my friend came to my rescue and immediately borrowed an umbrella from her neighbour to assist me with my luggage which got her soaked in the rain and we both had to treat ourselves to a nice hot (not warm but hot 😉) bath to ease ourselves of the terrifying cold.
Are things getting any easier or harder?
Well, I would say that the people benefitting most from this weather are farmers and umbrella sellers.😊
While others are suffering because of how the rain is ruining their business appointments, work, school, network poles and others, the farmers are dancing in their houses because of how their crops are benefitting from the rainfall and umbrella sellers are having Big Sales Days!!!
Of course, some farmers whose farms are experiencing soil erosion due to the heavy rainfall which have also resulted in flooding in their farms are the opposite of happy. Some homes, markets, shops, streets and more are undergoing the same issue presently.
How it's affecting me personally
Due to this weather, I've been unable to go out because when the rainfall seems to be reducing a little bit, it surprises me with a heavier downpour. I have been feeling cold all day due to the chilly weather, I have tons of wet clothes in buckets that the weather has refused from drying, my street is flooded and muddy making movement uneasy.
I hope the sweet rain takes a nap for some time so I can all get back to my daily activities without the weather constraints.
