Technology in the educational system

Hello, everyone!

This is the world of technology, and it should be implemented in the educational system in Nigeria, especially in our country. Other countries like America are enjoying their educational system because there are no stringent rules and laws over the students either in the lecture room or examination hall. Their system is flexible and it has been helping students use technology wisely.

However, some students can do better with less stringent rules, especially if technology gets involved. Let these technology tools, like phones and the internet, be implemented in the educational system to show the smartness of a student. Some students will have access to their phones in the exam hall; the answer to the question is right at their front, and they will not be able to give intelligent answers to it. Some students would have access to their phones, and they would be very smart to provide qualitative answers to the questions. These are students who would gain higher scores than others.

Using technology during exams doesn't entail copying and pasting; at least there must be an iota of intelligence in the application.

There is this lecturer I had in my third year, first semester. He taught us two courses that year. There is this course he taught us and I liked it, "translation". In fact, in his courses, towards the end of the class, he will say, "If you like, go and read that place." And all of us will mark that place with our pen. He placed simplicity in his teachings and we were able to cope with the leniency of his teaching. He was the best lecturer we had in our third and fourth years, and we all passed his exams with flying colors; we didn't use any technology, but his simplicity helped us in writing and passing exams.

My pastor once told me that if he had the opportunity to be a lecturer, he would set his exams in a way that students would come in with phones and the internet to answer the questions, yet they would still fail. So I asked him why. He said his questions would come from the things we have heard and experienced in our immediate environment, and it requires a student to use his or her common sense to attempt the question. This sounds odd but there is sense in it. At times, the internet will not let students apply the accurate answer the lecturer is looking for. On the other way, if the internet is allowed, some students will not have this cognitive memory, and the ability to think and be creative and will not be considered or embraced anymore.

My suggestion is that technology should be implemented into the educational system but shouldn't be used all the time in the exam hall, even if it is allowed, students should be smart enough to give smart answers too. The brain needs to be tested to some extent too. We will fly all over the world when we are brainy with technology skills. Through this knowledge, our students will be able to bring solutions to our society and a lot more.
