Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. So let's dive into today's topic: "Anti-Democracy".

In every country, democracy should be taken seriously because if democracy is not taken seriously, people may feel that their vote doesn't make a difference, but in my country here in Nigeria, there are several issues that undermine democracy and frustrate citizens in exercising their rights to choose their leaders, leading to many citizens thinking or feeling that their votes don't matter. Even power should be exercised by people either by direct or indirect means or through free and fair elections.

During the election period, there are frequent allegations of electoral malpractice and how the politicians will buy votes to favour them, as well as how they also manipulate the results to favour them. Even during the campaign you will see the protestant who are protesting for a position will come out especially all those politicians they will be making false promises telling people that if they vote for them that they will make sure to improve infrastructure or providing free services in their countries and communities.

Even some will go ahead distributing money, food, free health care and even doing boreholes just to make people happy and looking for their favour and support in other to reach the position they are looking for even they won't care the amount they spend during the campaign because they know that if the position they are looking for reach their hand they will see much more than the amount they spend during the campaign, but immediately they reach the position they won't even care or try to fulfill the promises they made for the citizens during the campaign. Even during the election, there is a lot of corruption, and this is among the politicians and political system. Just because they want to attain the position, they are ready to do anything.

I can still remember 25th of February 2023, before I gained admission into the university, Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu were fighting for the presidential seat, so during the election many people voted for Peter Obi. Even people were happy because the people who voted for Peter Obi were many more than the people who voted for Bola Tinubu thinking that it would be Peter Obi who would win the presidential seat. Not until we heard that it was Bola Tinubu who won the presidential seat, people were complaining, saying they did something that's why Bola Tinubu won the election, which is true. Even during the election, they do steal the ballot box if they see that their opponents have more votes than them. All this is what's happening in my country.

What ways are the people frustrated by their leaders from exercising their rights to choose their leaders?

There are many ways, and these include;

Citizens feel that the electoral officials do not represent, respond to, or even tend to their needs, which leads to a sense of powerlessness and frustration from the citizens.

Citizens feel frustrated and disappointed when the leader fails or refuses to fulfil the promises they made during the campaign.

Citizens feel frustrated when the leaders decide something without any clear communication or how the leaders didn't allow them to know when they decide the decision.

Citizens feel frustrated when they get to know that their votes don't count due to the manipulation of results and vote buying by the politicians.

What changes do you feel must be implemented to make everyone's voice heard?

They should help people, especially the poor and illiterate, understand their rights and how their votes are important.

Anytime our leaders decide to make decisions, they should let the citizens know about it; by doing this, trust can be built.

*During the election, they should make sure that the voters and candidates are safe and secure.

There must be free and fair elections, and there must be transparent elections.
