What about a system that pays everyone what they are worth?

Should workers earn equal pay? Well, this is the main subject of discussion today, and I will share my thoughts on this topic right away. Equal pay for workers isn't a fair deal in any way. This is because every worker has different skills and levels of experience.

In many organizations, there are different kinds of jobs as well as levels such as manager,HR,the ADMIN, accountant, sales representative, customer care, gateman, e.t.c. All of these categories of people, their job levels and difficulty vary, and so should their salaries.

Implementing equal pay will only encourage laziness on the part of the employees and a lack of personal development since the worker is sure of receiving an equal amount with everyone, whether he worked more or less. Imagine a manager of a company overworking himself for the growth of the company and now receiving an equal salary with the storekeeper. Definitely, the zeal to add more effort for an effective result wouldn't be there.

When it comes to pay, I think the factors to be considered are the value one adds to the organization, irrespective of your gender, and your certificate. Some people are highly productive and should be rewarded for their effort. This reminds me of my office days in 2020. My boss hired three engineers (two male and one female) and fixed them at an equal pay of $70 each per month. As an administrator in the company, my boss one day told me that obviously the female engineer does almost all the projects that come into the company. She literally guides the two other engineers. She was always up and doing and even got the skill to get new contracts for the company. My boss, instead of increasing her salary as a way to motivate her, said she is only a female, so he wouldn't be doing so. However,he acknowledges her input to the growth of the company. I was thinking that he drew my attention so I could express my opinion about the female engineer salary, but unfortunately, he already made his decision. Now, pay shouldn't be tied to gender; it shouldn't also be equal to enhance productivity in an organization. Anyone who works better deserves a better reward than others; with this, personal development will be encouraged. Also, one of the major reasons I resigned from my teaching job after just one term in a private school back then was because the school owner designed a fixed salary for all the teachers she employed. On my day of the interview, after I was done with the written test and passed, she never wanted us to negotiate about the salary; she told me that it's fixed at $35 and I can reject it or accept it. Then the agreement was that I would be a subject teacher, which was fair a bit—no much stress—and so I accepted. Along the line, the woman altered our agreement and gave me two different classes to teach, each offering 16 subjects each. That's 32 subjects handled by Nkem alone for $35 per month. I didn't want to process the new update but resigned immediately. The point I am making here is that people should be paid based on their worth, not to encourage equal pay for all workers. There are different professionals who aren't paid according to their worth. Professionals like the medical doctors and the teachers deserve good pay to suit their worth in society.

So if I have the power, I will design a system that pays everyone what they are worth, and of course, equal pay comes out of it. I will ensure that the lower-level workers are paid decent wages, and the higher-level workers will receive pay worth their efforts on different levels. I will also implement a motivation system that will run annually based on performance. With this, workers will be happy and eager to put in their best for a higher reward.

This post is in response to the #hivelearners community contest on the topic of equal pay.
