If there's definitely a task I find very challenging in my life, it will definitely be discovering my talent or gift. I guess this is one of the reasons behind the statement made by William Barclay who once stated that "the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why". Finding out that special reason you were created has a lot to do with your natural gifts or talents because this factor plays a major role in impacting the lives of others and impacting the world positively as a whole.
Most time whenever I hear people talk about their talents or gifts and how they were able to make fortune out of it, i sometimes do feel dejected and sometimes my inferiority complex sets in because I really don't know what my gifts or talents were unlike some people who were able to discover their talents. I kept thinking about what my talent could be but it was futile simply because I still wasn't able to know what my gifts were.
The Conversation with my Teacher
During my pursuit to finding out what my talents or gift could be, I summoned the courage to speak about this with one of my favourite teacher in school. I asked him directly by saying Sir, is it really true we all are gifted in different ways? He replied me by saying Yes! We are all gifted in different ways but what really matters the most is to make use of our gift to impact the lives of people positively. I then further asked him that i seem to be quite different because I've been trying to discover my gifts or talents but it's quite unfortunate i couldn't just discover them. He smiled and he replied by saying Adebola you will definitely discover your talent as time goes on and i want you to know that it sometimes takes time discovering your special gifts and abilities. All you need to do is just to be patience and never give up in the process.
It was at this point i realised that the 2021 Mortal Combat movie i watched could actually be a true life experience since it took Cole Young more time to discover his Arcana the same way I'm taking more time to discover my talent 😄. My teacher then gave me some suggestions and he also asked me some questions which could probably speed up the rate at which I would discover my talent. I will be sharing some of these tips as this will be of great benefit to anyone having similar issues like mine.
Some of the questions he asked are listed below
- What do you like doing comfortably the most?
- How do you react when people are doing what you love doing in a wrong manner?
- Will you continue to do what you love doing without getting paid?
- How often can you do without doing what you claimed you love doing?
- Do you find pleasure, joy or happiness when doing that thing?
Try to ask yourself these above questions and answer them yourself. There's high chance you might be so close to unlocking your Arcana.
He then further suggested that i should ask my parents, friends and loved ones if they notice any special gift or talent i posses. This is because these set of people can see lot of things you can't see as an individual since they are more closer to you.
What Could be my Talents or Special Gifts
After scrutinising what my teacher told me, I had to put his words into practice by asking myself that same question and I also asked my parents and people closer to me similar questions. I got cool response from my loved ones such as ;
- Adebola you are good in teaching. I think you should be in the academic field.
- Adebola you are good in solving problem
- Adebola you are gifted when it comes to giving people advice. I suggest you become a Counsellor.
- Adebola you be my gee and I no fit lie for you! All I can say is that you are highly intelligent and creative.
There actually a lot more and the list still continues like that as I tend to meet more people and make new friends.
If I am to answer the personal question recommended by my teacher, my gifts may actually be teaching because I find joy teaching people to the extent that they understand. I love breaking down complex or ambiguous topics or concepts into layman term just for easy comprehension provided my students understand what he/she is being taught and I do this for free most of the time without collecting a dome from anyone. Could teaching be my special gift or talent?🤔
I am also this type of person who loves being productive and this is why i love learning anything learnable provided it will keep me busy instead of me wasting time on unnecessary things. During the process of learning, I noticed that i tend to grab or understand anything i learn very fast and with the help of God I'm able to put my learning into practice by doing things differently. This has really helped me a lot as regards to some digital skills I posses today such as writing, Graphic design, data analysis, writing python code (novice) and many others. Could it be that i was born to innovate or create something big in the tech or digital space?🤔
I'm actually still yet to discover what my real talents are though but for now, all I can say is that I'm talented when it comes to teaching and I'm also talented when it comes to exploring and playing in the digital space. The Journey to myself discovery isn't over yet because self discovery is something that should be done almost everyday in our lives as this will definitely help us when it comes to unlocking our Arcana.
