If I can help to relieve someone’s pain then It is kindness also, if I can help them feel better it is selfless because it’s not costing me money or I am not losing money. If I can’t stand up for someone then in my opinion that could also happen to me and I can be the next target somewhere someday. Moreover, I won’t blame anyone if they can’t help me. I would consider them selfish like me because I didn’t take stand for someone else too. I think that we all should treat other people like how we would like to be treated.

We all need to understand the situation and observe someone’s level of tolerance in order to stay aware of it. Most of the times when someone just watches something wrong going on and do nothing it’s an act of being inhuman. I would ask to speak up also, silence can be encourage the acceptance of the wrong actions. People will keep doing wrong things if none decides to speak up. The person doing wrong will think that it’s fine because no one is stopping them and they can do whatever they like.

I that the greatest way to stand up is by having self confidence. Whenever, I confront someone I would make sure to let my feelings out to the person so that they can know that I am not comfortable with their actions. I know if I am trying to stand up to someone and no matter what I say to them they will always try to defend and get offended say more negative things to me anyways, I always have to deal with the situation. Everyone has the power to live their life so do I but no one is allowed to deteriorate me from my goals or allowed to keep me down. Even if it’s not related to me and someone is being bullied in-front of me I would take a stand for them always. I don’t care about the consequences it’s better not to keep the silence.

When I was 15 I transferred to a new school moved to a new place which is in Dhaka. In my previous school I had been the target for years like they would be making up groups and divide those who are not willing to abide by their rules. I didn’t know anyone at the new school. According to few students in my class not only was I known by the most popular students but I was also popular in the school and I was not aware of it.

One day during lunch period I sat with the popular kids at the same tables, I thought they let me sit with them because I was with the seniors. I had a classmate named “Akhi” she was kind of close to me and she and her family had moved from Comilla to Dhaka just before her freshman year. She was very nice to me and I loved to play and read books in the library with her, soon we became friends. Her mom liked me very much hanging with her. I didn't realize “Akhi” was being bullied but nobody hit her physically. Actually most of the times she was being ignored by others. When we used to seat together and these students would come and talk with me moreover, they behaved very well and asked if she was new. But Akhi knew them from the beginning and would try to remind the person how they have met before but they don’t seem to remember Akhi.

Everyone used to say that they ignore her because of her appearance for being dark skinned which is racist. I would never talk with those who would trash about her. So, on a school assembly day everyone was having lunch at the same time. Akhi and I left class and I was asking her if she wanted to have lunch with me. At first she was thinking but later on she agreed. I asked her to sit with me and we both sat at one of the table with the popular students.

Then the other popular students just stopped eating and stared at Akhi for a long time. One of the girls named “Raima” she stared at Akhi and then said “why are you here? You don’t deserve to seat with us in this row.” Raima didn't raise her voice, but her voice had such rudeness. Akhi felt the embarrassment and took her food and stood up. I also stood up with her to leave. Because I was frustrated that how can treat someone like this. I looked down at Raima and said “I can't have my food and sit with the people who can treat someone else like that.”

Then I decided to seat with Akhi where there was no crowd. Then suddenly one by one the other popular students started to join our table. Then I saw Raima was sitting alone and then left the cafeteria. After few days have passed Raima tried to talk with me in front of her friends then I asked her to say sorry to Akhi. She later on did apologise to her and I am not quite sure if she really meant it.

After few years I met with one of Akhi’s friend in the street I was going out with my mother, but I could not recognise her because she was Akhi’s new friend and Akhi used to tell her new friends about me and that girl she started to tell me how I had made some changes into Akhi’s life. Akhi had tried to commit suicide in school before meeting me and also added that I was her one and only real friend. That girl again said that “You always took stand for her which helped her to build confidence”. After that everyone started to give her importance and respect in further life. Recently I saw she was very happy fulfilling her dreams having good friends and a great partner. I was labelled as the ray of hope in her life.

I am soo happy that she found her happiness in life and sadness was moved far away. She actually deserved the happiness in her life, finally she has it. She is still grateful to me which I didn’t expect because I did not do it to make her to stay grateful about me.
