It's really a good thing to be good and to always help people. But the motive behind anything we do for others is so important. Many people tend to help others for public recognition while some do them as a result of empathy and a good heart. The heart behind any good deed matters a lot.
As we all know, we live in a world where many desire public recognition, they do good to others so that people can hail them and call them all sorts of good names. Many go to the length of sharing their good deeds online so as to receive appraisals.
Personally, I believe a good heart is more important when offering help to people, you share in their pain by showing empathy. A good heart has this natural habit of helping people in need, they do it with joy and not with any other personal motive in mind. I have seen series of cases where the one being helped feels being used by the helper and this is bad. This has made many people to be more conscious of the help they receive from people.
When you have a good heart you don't even need to publicize it before people appraising you for your kind nature. Your good heart will always speak of you. I have witnessed cases where people are being recommended for the topmost position within society due to their good heart.
Having a good heart is a nature and people with such a heart can go at any length to help others because it's their nature and not that they want to impress people or make a public show of it.
We all need help in one way or another but despite our needs, we don't want to be used by others all in the name of receiving help. Imagine a lady seeking for a job in a reputable company only for the employer to ask for sex in exchange for the job. Can we categorize that as help? this clearly shows that the employer is offering such help for his personal gain.
Some help is just like bait in other to entice people for their personal gain. This is actually common among our politicians.

Personally, I love doing good to people from my heart, and even when I help people I don't like it to be known to others. I believe that God is the only one that can reward my good deeds and not man. As much as I love helping people, I don't like making it public because I'm not doing it for personal gain or public recognition. There were lot of times that I have rendered help to people and did them anonymously.
Some issues are sensitive and don't need to be publicized, publicizing it can cause more damage to the person than the good deed you've done. So as I said earlier, intentions are really important. If you have a good heart you will be more concerned about the person in need of your help.
For me, I would prefer being helped by someone who has good intentions rather than someone helping me for public recognition. If I discover that the good deed was done for his or her personal gain, I will feel used and this will hurt me more. So I prefer someone to help me because of their good heart.

The truth is that when help is offered from a good heart it's quite noticeable through their emotions and compassion, even if such person post it online, he or she will be conscious of discrete information to share with the public compared with someone who helps because of personal benefit, he or she won't care if discrete information about the person being helped is let out to the public and his concern will be majorly on himself and not about the one being helped.
