Spiky Caterpillar in Panama - PhotoFeed Contest - Macro Photography Round 88

I was taking a walk around our neighborhood this week and this spiky guy caught my attention! I know that spiky caterpillars usually are poisonous, so I just left him alone, other than taking photos of him.

He seemed to be enjoying his breakfast of this bright green leaf. He was actually a pretty large and thick little guy.

I lived in the mountains of Panama, but I'm not sure what type of caterpillar he is. I did a search and it said gusano de pino, but I have no idea if that is right! I have heard that if you get stung by any of the spiny caterpillars, you squish them and rub their guts on the sting and it will stop.

As long as he stays on a leaf and off of me, I'm cool with leaving him alone! He was really cool looking, don't you think?
