Easter holidays, with the Friday and Monday off it's perfect for a long weekend away - no doubt one of my family's favourite holiday spots is Blackpool on the West Coast of the UK - and considering the time of year you would expect it not to be exactly warm - but surprisingly we had a long weekend of sun and quite hot temperatures.
So perfect for strolling on the beach, and digging a few holes in the sand for fun.
While admiring Blackpool tower in the distance, you can go right to the top of the Tower as well - and we did!
We enjoyed this magnificent sunset first though - truly breathtaking watching the sun literally drop below the ocean!

Once you pay your fee to get into the tower the base houses various entertainments including a cafe, pub and gaming arcade. As you progress they have a 4D cinema which is included in the going up the tower ticket - this has fans that blow wind on you, water and foam that sprays you and with the 3D glasses objects from the film really do fly out at you directly - a pretty cool bonus I was not expecting.
Then you ride a lift to the top, the main section at the top is double glazed so you are well shielded from adverse weather, and has toughened glass flooring at some sections so you can walk over and look down the tower itself to the Promenade.
You can then go up some spiral stairs to an open section - although it has plenty of solid metal supports around and then a fine mesh so you can't lean out - or for the trouble makers be tempted to see what might happen if you lob something onto the street below.
A second stair case takes you higher again, once more mesh stops you leaning or throwing out - but you get a real sense of the height from the wind - and this was on a day when at ground level it was still.
After the Tower my boy went and hung out with DAN TDM the YouTube Minecraft legend - courtesy of Madame Tussauds - generally most of the exhibits are the same as the last post I did on it so no new footage here - still a fun walk round.
One thing about Blackpool, it's not short of street artists you can see some really fun art just walking around.
Blackpool never gets old, it's close enough to be convenient but far enough to be "away from home" and every visit you find something new to enjoy - on this visit we found a large candy shop, but at the back it housed an amazing historic toy museum with Dinky Toys going back to the 1900's, then up to more modern Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr Who and working train sets laid out along with very old but still functioning coaches that run on roads seemingly on their own - super cool. Next time I visit will be the time to take photos!
