A 4 Hour Road Trip Needs a Coffee & Happy Hive Power Up Day!

Hey there Coffee Lovers;

Today, I have a few purposes:

  1. To let you in on my most recent coffee adventure &
  2. To celebrate Hive Power Up Day #HivePUD

Let's get underway, with the most important part, The Coffee Adventure.

I got home on Friday night, and was ready for a weekend of doing absolutely nothing! There's an Iron Man event on here today (Sunday) and it's closed the roads, so basically, we can't leave the house, except to go for a walk. You can imagine my delight then, when my wife excitedly exclaimed, 'Look what I found on Marketplace'. It was a heap of glass which she would use in her art. I'm talking, a lot of glass (it cost $750 and that was a bargain, lot of glass!).

The catch? I had to do the four hour round trip in the car to pick it up Saturday morning, while she had a work appointment. You can see where this is going right?

On the two hour drive north is a petrol station / service centre, with a heap of different food options. I only had eyes for the McCafe though! In I marched, and I put my order straight in:
Medium Skim Cappucino
Banana Bread - toasted.

Now, a lot of people turn their noses up at McCafe, and in a coffee-snob kind of way, prefer the more boutique-y coffee shops. Don't get me wrong, I love a good boutique-y coffee shop too, but the thing I like about McCafe is, you know exactly what you're going to get, and what it is going to taste like. I'd only ever stopped at this service centre twice before, but I knew this is what my order was going to look like, even before they called my number:

I did happen to have a goofy moment though with my banana bread, I took it out of the bag and thought, 'They forgot the butter!'. I shrugged, and had it without the butter and it was fine, although a bit smaller than I usually get. I wasn't overly hungry, so shrugged off the missing half inch in height.

As expected though, the banana bread was delicious. They give you a little disposable knife, and with that, I like to cut it up into nice little squares to pop in my mouth. When I finished up, and was throwing my bag in the bin, I noticed the plastic tub of butter in the bottom of the bag - turns out, I just assumed nothing was in there. Oh well!

In terms of ambiance, well - it's a rest stop on the side of the freeway - they don't make them 'too nice' or 'with ambiance' - but it was clean, and I found this one wall of green to sit next to in the corner. It meant I could look straight ahead at the wall of plants, or turn to the left and watch people put petrol in their cars. A magic place for a cup of coffee, some would say! I just kept thinking though that the plants looked like they hadn't ben watered in a few long time. Lot's of wilting leaves and dead gaps. It was supposed to be a bit uplifting to sit here, but it ended up a little bit sad. That said, no one was around and I do enjoy solitude.

The coffee itself, I should add - was again, as expected - really rather delicious, and the perfect temperature. I hate when coffee is too hot, or burnt! Just what I needed to do the second half of my trip north. I took half the cup full with me to the car and continued on feeling contented. In the end, it was super worthwhile - my wife was delighted with the glass; and I hadn't had banana bread in ages, so it was a good day for me too!

Power Up Party Time

Now, while I have you - I also wanted to take the time to acknowledge that today is the first of May, and you know what that means. Today is Hive Power Up Day - I've come to love this day, nearly as much as coffee, because it is a chance to reflect on how we all progress on the blockchain, and invest into Hive, rather than simple take from it.

My attitude is that the more I power up, the better - and my commitment is to work to being a DOLPHIN by the 1st of January, 2023. Last month I started with 781 Hive powered up, and set a goal of 369. I wanted to make it to 1150 Hive powered up. In the end, I smashed it!

I ended up on 1362 Hive! That's a gain of 581 HIVE!!
For this month ahead, I am not going to set myself a goal - but rather, will continue to power up, and power ahead. Let's bring on 2000 HIVE powered up!

(Ok, not a massive power up today, but I've done some massive power ups this month, and didn't have much to actually power up with!)

Why not have a coffee, and invest some HIVE into you?
Until next time, thanks for joining me.
