The Colonel's Coffee : A Golf & Country Club Cafe

"One hot Cafe Americano, please, no sugar or cream."

My soft voice echoed louder than usual against bird song and the occasional engine sound of the ultralight aircraft passing overhead. The friendly staff took in our breakfast order and my much-awaited liquid fuel.

We flew in and traveled 6 hours by bus from Davao City the night before to spend a few days in Mati, Davao Oriental, south of the Philippines. Please check out my previous post where I narrated the flight mishaps, how we got here, and where it is located.

The coffee shop is tucked nicely behind the roadside fence next to the driving range of Don Paco Rocamora Golf & Country Club.

We stayed in the aviation quarters of Mindanao Saga Flying Club within the Country Club property right at the back of this 9-hole golf course. It is connected to an arch gateway where you'll find a series of hangars and a massive airstrip equipped with its control tower. Ultralight flying was our main agenda on this trip but I'll share that in another post.

The direct views of the golf course's vast green terrain from the coffee shop make it special. Nature plays a part in the whole experience while it carries a military theme consistent with the name.

The space oozed with masculinity. It paints a picture of what a colonel's private club space would look like, adorned with his Harley Davidson motorbike and boy toys. The choice of materials and accessories reflected foreign styles captured during his military tours overseas and sentimental ornaments from his glory days.

The ambiance was warm and welcoming. It didn't feel too exclusive and that vibe carried on with the friendliness of the country club members, the management, and the staff.

@iamyohann was undecided about which breakfast to pick. I was all good as long as I had my cup of joe. They shared a plate while I ordered one of the Filipino Breakfasts, corned beef with egg and garlic rice. They allowed me to take a sneak peek of the kitchen and it's well sanitized and super clean. The washroom is consistent with the cleanliness as well and quite spacious.

In case you're in the area, here are the details:

Overall, whether you're a golfer or a non-member, it's worth a visit when you're in the area.

The Coffee Shop Prompt 57

What I enjoy about going out for coffee versus making it at home is that I don't have to wash the coffee filter and cafetière nor clean the coffee machine 😂 especially when I'm the only one drinking coffee at home.

I love coffee shops that are surrounded by nature, like Colonel's Coffee. There's nothing better than enjoying every sip with a view or being embraced by trees and greenery.

Imagine taking a stroll in our coastal village on a hot summer day. The sun is shining bright, and you can feel the warmth on your skin and the sweat running down your back. I don't enjoy drinking coffee under humid heat. Rest assured, there are some cozy coffee shops around with air-conditioning where you can chill and enjoy your favorite drink while escaping the heat with nature views. Sounds tempting, doesn't it? I'll feature some of them soon.

What about you, do you prefer going out for coffee or making it at home?
