I think we have all lived at least one experience of this type and it is bitter to realize that we have been scammed, it happened to me trying to sell a cell phone, just like you then I felt like a fool and sometimes even answering a call one can end up being a victim of these people who are dedicated to scam, I will try that application you speak of.
