I am going to be dead honest with you. You may call me old-school or old guys mindset but I am not an acronym literate.
Yes, that's so true!
To me, I feel that there are just to many acronyms that needs to be remembered. Literally like a thousand acronyms needs to be memorized.
I mean, I don't have that much time to do it.
And I usually Google them just to get that full word!
Call me old-fashioned or baby boomers, but that is just who I am.
And I only remembered those that I often use. Such as:
LOL = Laugh Out Loud
TBH = To be honest
Other than that, there are just too many!
One thing for sure, younger generation is most likely exercise the application of this acronyms which can be found not only in messages but in their daily communication.
And when I looked at Google about acronym, there are thousands of words. How should I be able to learn them?
And I even found some acronym with a few different words like this:
WTF = What the fish or What the fuck or What the fig
Crazy! That is just one from many!
Acronym vs age group?
The usage of acronym has been widely related with age group. For example, millenials are more likely use acronym compared to Gen-Y and Baby Boomers.
Not sure any research was done on this either.
Conclusion
With that said, I may be looking into this matter a deep further just to understand if there are any correlation between usage of acronym and age group.
I hypothesize that there may be a significant by looking at younger generation like millenials are more tech-savvy as compared to older group and younger age group prefers things straightforward by using acronym.
