A black-and-white collage of people from the streets of Petchaburi in Thailand. The source photographs are below. I like all these source images in themselves but I wanted to try to give a quick impression of the highlights of the set, which basically means the people, particularly their faces. In some ways it actually gives a better feeling of the town's busy market area than a group of stills can. In the market in real time your eye inevitably jumps around from face to face.
Collage gives a lot of scope to play around with size, perspective and placement, and can be a challenge to make it work as a composition. But it also allows a joke or two. The overloaded motorbike on the sidewalk, for example - something to expect in this country. And I love using sections of a scene as a window into another scene like the hoop on the main man's shirt, which adds an interesting new dimension.
Next I'll see how well it works in colour.
