Well here's my entry for this week.

Many years ago my husband and I had a surprise gift for our parents. We would do a trip with a hot air balloon. None of us did that before so it was an exiting adventure. We could take of near to our place, and we would see where the wind would take us. I only have a couple of pictures from that trip. Most of the pictures are on my backup hard drive in Belgium. But I'll share the ones I have here.

Abbey of Averbode

It's very hard to recognize places and buildings when you're up there. The abbey although was very easy to spot. This is 25 km from the starting point.
The abbey is famous for his beer and cheese (Info on the abbey)

But first things first. We helped with the preparation of the hot air balloon. It arrives in a little truck and of course it needs to be "inflated" before we can set of.

First the envelope (balloon) had to be attached to the wicker basket. No need to say that we double checked everything 😏

This shot was taken inside the balloon. At the end you can see the burners facing the mouth of the envelope.

The envelope is spread out on the lawn and the burners start pumping hot air into the envelope.

More and more hot air is filling the balloon and soon we're ready for liftoff.

Not much time to take pics, it's hard to hold it ... Hurryyyyyy!

It was a nice experience. We all loved it. When you're up in the air, everything is so peaceful and quiet. Once in a while you hear a dog barking because of the noise the burners make when they put some mor hot air in the balloon. I was also surprised that you don't feel any breeze. Of course not, you go with the same speed as the wind!

We had a soft landing and afterwards we had champagne! End of a lovely afternoon!
