In scientific researches, establishing causality is the most difficult of all kinds. However, such doctors and scientists of my land quickly figure out the causality of a particular condition. This quality of them is amazing, isn’t it?
After giving birth to my son, when I shifted to the ward, I was dying of thirst. I wanted to drink a glass full of water. Oops! I was not allowed. My mother-in-law was there and she said drinking water at that time causes the tummy to bulge out. (The myth is drinking enough water during the first forty days of delivery causes tummy bulging) I waited for the next four hours for her and other family members to leave the place so that I might quench my thirst.
Do you know how you get helminths in your body? Eating sweet things especially sugar causes the birth of helminths in the digestive tract.

Well, in biology, I studied helminths enter the body via contagious food and water. Nevertheless, the amazing doctors tell me that I am wrong. They insist if a kid is having itching in the anal area due to helminths, the reason is s/he ate sugar.
There are a lot of restrictions for nursing mothers. It is believed that taking any cold food would result in the development of colds, nasal, lungs, and bronchitis problems in the feeding baby. Not only this, but if she feeds the baby whilst her hairs are wet, the same problems arise in the baby. Moreover, if a baby is born with colds infections, her mother is blamed to take rice and milk during pregnancy.
If she eats any hard thing (this is what things are called here) such as chickpea or gram lentils (or I don’t know how many hard things do exist), it causes digestive problems in the baby. If a baby is farting a lot, his mother must have had some hard things in the meal.
Another amazing discovery of these doctors is about nuts eating during pregnancy (by the way it is opposite to scientific researches). It is believed that during the first trimester of pregnancy eating nuts results in a miscarriage. Literally, I have heard ladies claiming that their miscarriages were caused because they had a handful of nuts accidentally during the initial period of pregnancy.
Oh, I forgot to mention amazing dentists. They treat tooth cavities by giving steam of some powder (I don’t know what the ingredients of this powder are). The powder is placed on a flat iron rod. The rod is put into a clay pot which is placed in a water tub. When the steam is given, the cavity-causing worms coming out of the tooth can be seen in the water. (I know the worms don’t cause cavity but they can be observed swimming over water in the tub). Voila! The cavity is treated. Amazingly, the patient also feels relief from pain.
These are only a few medical myths that prevail in my society.
people not only believe them but also give others advice based on these myths. These people are so expert in their knowledge, no argument or logic can shake their beliefs and ideology. Believe me; never try to argue with these doctors. I bet you will lose.
This is my entry for proof of brain word of the week, causality.
