Today, I embarked on a new role involving the Ndama breed of cattle, which are notably scarce and rare in Nigeria.
This indigenous breed is distinct with its uniform brown color, absence of humps, and relatively small size compared to some other local breeds.
The Ndama cattle are exclusively raised for meat production, unlike other breeds that may also be used for dairy or labor. They are easily adaptable to harsh weather conditions do not contract diseases easily most especially trypanosomiasis.
My work entailed shadowing herdsmen as they managed the cattle during grazing.
Although , the task involved monotonous aspects like herding them with a stick and merely observing them eat, I found the experience quite enlightening.
The unique appearance of the Ndama cattle made the work engaging, and I appreciated the chance to delve into the practical aspects of livestock management.
This beautiful experience did not only provided me with valuable insights into this rare breed but also offered a glimpse into what I might encounter in my future farming ventures.
