Killer mosquito bites

Ike placed his lawn chair in the middle of the garden and sat down. Almost immediately, he heard the mosquitoes as they swarmed around him, ready for dinner.

Bzzzzzz. Bzzzzzz. Bzzzzzz. The noise was maddening and he wanted to squash them all, then go back into his house.

Calm down. Just calm down, he told himself. It's just fifteen minutes. He launched the timer.

He spotted the first mosquito of the lot as it landed on his forearm. There was enough light that he could almost see the moment when it inserted its sucker into his skin.

One thing is sure, he felt the bite. He also felt the mosquito as it poked about, looking for a vein. When it found one, it remained still. The other mosquitoes followed suit.

After about 15 minutes of getting sucked, his phone's alarm rang. It was done. Ike controlled his urge to go on a killing rampage. It would have been counter-productive. He calmly stood up and walked back to his house.

The mosquitoes had swallowed enough of the genetically modified nanites in his blood. These nanites would infest their cells and render their offspring sterile. Even better, by touching other mosquitoes, the females who bit him tonight would transfer these nanites to others, like an infection. He had done his job for the night and smiled as he entered the house.
